Changing oil in KTM LC 4 (1993)
Hi there,
I’ve got KTM LC 4, 1993 (model with two oil filters, micro and macro). The guys from KTM service station advised me to change oil every 3 thousands km what I am used to do. I am planning to go to Africa soon (trip about 20 thousands km, Cape Town-Cairo). I heard about some problems with buying oil in Africa and obviously I am not gonna take the reserve for the whole journey. I know it’s possible to buy it in S.A., Kenya and Tanzania. Any of you know if it is possible to change oil every (let’s say) five thousands km. ? What do you think? Thanks for the answers. |

You should have no problem. I have been overlanding with my KTM through Australia Asia etc and changing oil (synthetic) at 5000. No problems

But doesn't it depend on whether Majew's LC4 has an oil reservoir in the frame or not? No oil in the frame implies less overall capacity which implies shorter distances between intervals. For what it's worth i've stretched the distance from the recommended 5000kms (for 640 LC4 with oil in frame) to 6000kms, using good quality oil, with no problems.
Hope this helps, Ian. |
Thank you for your answers, yes my KTM has an oil reservoir in the frame. In the owner’s handbook it is written that after changing oil and filters you have to pour in 2,2 liter of oil.

If you haven't already done so I'd suggest pusing in reusable filters:
http://www.dual-star.com/index2/Bran...l%20Filter.htm I've still got them in after 30,000km (after a few oil changes) Just like they say: remove, wash, replace. Brilliant. No space taken up by lots of new ones. I'd also recommend heated grips from: http://www.hotgrips.com/dirtbikes.html All the ones i looked at were were really hard and too long so they wouldn't fit anyway. These are really good quality and I even used them today. ------------------ Jerome http://www.fowb.co.uk |
