fuel valve
I´ve seen my friend break the gas valve from under his gas tank in a very minor fall. This happened on a 640 adventure. Any ideas on how to relocate/protect this valve???
Thanks |
There are several solutions available, eg.

There's also a Polish company producing them for aprox. 350€, but can't find the link right now. All options are rather expensive (130€ HB, Motobau is 170€) and heavy. I'm now thinking about removing the valve completely, it's useless anyway (at least for me, I have rear tanks mounted :-) Cheers, Kudi ------------------ Ride Your Dreams |
Thanks Kudi,
I think I might try fabricating one of these protectors on my own, do you have any pictures looking up under the tank? Thanks, Diego |
Hi Dgamboa
The only other pics I know of are http://www2.freepichosting.com/Images/421512580/1.jpg http://www2.freepichosting.com/Images/421512580/1.jpg http://www2.freepichosting.com/Images/421512580/3.jpg http://www2.freepichosting.com/Images/421512580/4.jpg http://www2.freepichosting.com/Images/421512580/5.jpg Do a Goggle research, I'm shure you'll find more. If not and you desperately need one from a specific angle I can ask in the German Adventure BB if someone could post one. Save Rides, Kudi ------------------ Ride Your Dreams |
Hi,
both the tank valve and gear lever are vulnerable fwit i'd suggest the sommer's plate - or getting a similar one fabricated. it is expensive but has a dual purpose - protection and tool/water storage. where do you keep your tools? i drop my bike quite often (once a week/month just getting on/off) and i've never had aproblem with petrol tap or gear levers (touch wood). Back in london (after 8 months in Africa) i took it off and dropped it outside my flat after id taken the bash plate off - result was unusuable gear lever! (luckily, i'd zip tied a spare to my racks) http://www.fowb.co.uk/images/aMToluc...oBike3_jpg.jpg http://www.fowb.co.uk/images/aKTMBikeBFront_jpg.jpg ------------------ Jerome http://www.fowb.co.uk [This message has been edited by Jerome (edited 03 July 2004).] |
Hey Jerome, Are you carrying a bike on the back?!
Diego |
Jerome,
Where do you find a ¨sommers¨ plate, do they have a site on the web? Thanks Diego |
1 bike on a bike
i tried - the weight or width were too dangerous. the only place is parallel to the bike instead of one pannier, which i didnt want to do. - see my web site for details 2 sommers are the biggest ktm dealer in europe. any part not in stock they get from the factory the next if not the same day. they are very efficient - parts ordered fron Peru on thursday were in Lima on monday 4 days later. i use them instead of uk dealers. use google to translate thier site: http://www.ktm-sommer.de/Seiten_04/F_zub_adv640_04.html as Kudi said above its 590 euros but how much is getting stranded worth? ------------------ Jerome http://www.fowb.co.uk |
