Inspecting a used 690 R

Hello

Currently ride an 09 f800gs and want something lighter. We are planning a trip to South America next winter and I am in lust with the KTM 690 Enduro. They come up for sale around here seldom and I have found a 2012 w 9300 kms and a Safari tank for a very reasonable price. The sellor lives kind of remotely but we may be able to meet half way over the holidays. Ususally I like to have a dealer do a PPI and check for known issues but in this case the local shop is closed over the holidays.

I am reading as much as I can but would like some thoughts on if I should take it in or can I get by without the PPI? I should get the VIN today from the sellor and will call the original dealer to see what if any work has been done on the bike.

I am moderately ok with a set of tools but by no means am a mechanic or high level DIY'er. Appreciate any advice on what I should be looking at. PO did mention he has experienced the stalling issue as he rides some tighter technical trails but he has only had the bike for 1000 kms and bought it used from a local Husky dealer that had it on consignment and aparently checked it over before selling.

Thanks in Advance

2012 model year was a major change with a larger capacity engine (654cc -> 690cc), reduced suspension travel by 50mm and consequently reduced seat height, rev counter for the first time. Also the service interval was increased to 10,000 km.

Best advice might come from asking at UK KTM Forum - UK KTM Forum

Thanks Tim

I have seen you also ride this bike from other posts. I just spoke with the dealer who originally sold the bike. The bike had its first service there and no records afterwards, but in reality it hasnt needed even an oil change since then. Only thing I really have to worry about is if the bike was abused during its first 9300 kms - I will post on the forumyo mentioned and see what comes bak.
