I've called them to get more info, sadly the big tank isn't homologated for europe... so you can ride it around in africa, asia and such but forget it in europe, which is a HUGE shame, would have make the perfect bike.

This KTM Team West "product" isn't new
This is just the Safari-Aqualine 14l tank and Alberto Dottori's fairing ... a combination Alberto has been offering for about a year now. (He is the Safari distributor in Italy and a former Dakar rider)
http://www.albertodottori.net/images...90%20r%202.jpg Over in the US, Rally Management Services have been offering the same combination (Safari tank and Alberto's fairing) for at least 6 months: Rally Management Services Since Alberto is usually ahead of the pack, its interesting to note there are some new fotos appearing on his site ... an "Africa" kit he has developed for the 690R. (Twin front tanks total 14 extra litres, and full front fairing, and twin headlights). The kit will be available in March. So maybe KTM Team West will have them next year ;) http://www.albertodottori.net/images...0rally%203.jpg http://www.albertodottori.net/images...0rally%201.jpg That (with a low front fairing) is more my taste when it comes to a 690 Adventure |
Any more details
Finally tempted to convert from the Adventure
The twin tanks look great. Can't seem to find detail on prices on Alberto's website for the twin tank and the UK/US/AUS all only seem to have prices for the old (last year) over the seat safari tank. Advrider also little detail on this latest option. Anybody got any further info, while I await email replies. Cheers |

They arent on his website yet cause they arent available yet. March is due date. 2000 EUR the price, and 14 litre capacity, same as safari. They come unpainted. Kit includes the 2 tanks, 2 side panels, front fairing and the lights. Of course, you could try and order it without the lights and put in some proper lights :thumbup1: |
It pisses me off that KTM Team West is trying to pass this kit off as their invention... As if they make a single piece of it! The parts have been available for a while and the sources are well known. :censored:

Are you connected in any way to Alberto? I have been interested in his fairing for one reason only, that is has room to fit 90mm lights (you know which ones :thumbup1:). Otherwise, RallyRaid UK makes the same thing for about half the price, but it is made as a replacement for the original and fits the smaller Hellas. Lukas |

As far as I know rallyraid UK only make their fairing for the 690RR yes? and not the 690 E/R ... so you would need to work out yourself how to attach it ... to your 640 ;) |
Where can I find a link to the Rally Raid site? I only found Rally Raid Products but they don't seem to sell the fairings yet, the Webshop is 'soon to come' since forever...
Cheers, buebo |

Oops, somehow I missed that while first searching, maybe because it seems like a car site when looking at the front page :scooter: |
Another 690 Adventure option
Been following this and other threads on putting together a 690 Adv for off road focused touring. I reckon this could be the ultimate package, I liked Walter Colebatch's approach with his well prepped X-Challenge but I think this approach can be better. I note you are hanging around these threads Walter what do you think?
The lads at Route 55 KTM near Chester are putting together a package based on additional 14l front tanks mated to an Adv990 fairing top end inc headlight. For about £1500 or so either fitted up on a new bike or as a retrofit kit. Route 55 Motorcycles, New and Used Honda and KTM in North West and North Wales. Talk to Ian he knows his stuff. Walter has already pointed out a great seat comfort solution - Ortileb luggage Not sure the KTM or other racks designed to carry DeutscheKoffers are right for soft luggage - Could be fabbed up or anyone know of a neat solution out there? Bashplate/toolbox combo - Is there an off the shelf solution out there? I think with the above plus engine guards and you have the basis of something pretty much good to go. I am planning a South America 6 month round trip starting in Santiago in July. Given the good KTM dealer network in Chile and Argentina should mean I can get spares OK, and even looking at putting togther a kit to ship out to fit to a locally bought 690. Dearer with their import duties ($22K usd in Chile for a new base 690R!) but you save approx £2800 in shipping back and forth and I plan to start and finish there so I can sell on after. Again if anyone out there has any experience of this kind of approach of "buy local" guidance much appreciated. Cheers - Martyn Route 55 Motorcycles, New and Used Honda and KTM in North West and North Wales. |
In my opinion the EFI on the 690 is not reliable enough to trust it on a long trip. Ask Ricky over on ADV. Close ratio gearbox spacing is also pretty useless.
The other issues are minor and easily sorted (filler cap, tank bushings, radiator fan....) . If buying fuel from dubious sources be sure to filter it well before it gets to the in tank pump. KTMatt from Australia makes a really nice rally bash plate for it: http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...shplate022.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/r...4/P1000286.jpg Rock Hard Rally Gear. KTM LC4 and LC8 rally bash plates. (Australia) - ADVrider |
Thanks for the basjplate info, looks very fit for purpose.
I couldn't locate Ricky at ADV - can you post me a link to the thread. I have seen some of the issues with the earlier models, I was perhaps placing too much blind faith in Austrian engineering figuring these out for the 10 model ? :smiliex: |
