Carefull with those tyre pressures off road. In rocky going better off with higher pressures and less grip. I say this as the front (BEHR/SAXXIS) rims as fitted to both my 640 adventure and 990 adventure are soft and liable to be damaged (loads of past problems in Australia & USA).
My 640 has same manufacturer and size as 990 and has had 1 new rim under KTM warranty and needs another already! I will be changing the front to a DID 1.85 in the future to finally resolve the problem. Funny as the rear rim is undamaged! The 990 is not used off road so no rim damage at present. I run Dunlop D908RR tyres off road on the 640 and they are brilliant! that extra centre section does make the tyre last a little longer... pricey though.. just my 2pence worth.... |
hey,
just a little advice. i was driving a 950 and a 990 now for more then a 100 000 km and the best tyre i was driving was the mefo explorer and super explorer. with this tyre you can drive more then a 10000 kms. i never could do this with the scorp or a tkc or any other tyre. with best regards henning |
ive just returned from a 3k trip around norway using the conti's, 150 section rear.
i had to change the rear at kristiansnds on way home as don wn to 1mm with 400 miles to go. this was at 2550miles from new. bike fully loaded running @ 35psi front and back. couldnt get another conti in kristiansands to opted for a mt21 in 140 section as the best ktm dealer had. rode through denmark at a steady 75mph with no probs but when leaving harwich for the blast north and home bike developed a vibration at 80mph up th A12. found i had ripped the knobbles off the mt21- peice of crap.. around uk use conti's all the time for road and greenlaning @ 25psi. i get 4500 miles out a front and 1800miles out the rear and im not easy on the gas:funmeteryes:, with no tyre creap. just take it easy powering out of corners and roundabout as the bike may want to swap ends:nono: good lean angles for a semi knobbly too |
