Setting a KTM for altitude.
Does anyone have experience setting up a KTM LC4 640 for altitude. The bike has standard carb settings, needle on 3rd from top notch, and a 142.5 jet. We have two bikes and one is performing ok other uses 20% more fuel at altitude and very reduced power (any suggestions why)
One more question - what does the solenoid that is attached to the carb do and when does it open etc. |
Hi mjriden,
I'm no expert on this but you can get some great info by searching & posting the Yahoo Groups KTM Duke group... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KTMDuke or other KTM public groups... http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=ktm&submit=Search I believe you need to create a yahoo id... For example - they have a jetting table from users with comments... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/KTMDuk...portRows&tbl=1 However - on the bad bike - (if you haven't already - sorry) try the basic carb cleaners, and make sure the idle speed is set ok, and the air intake and filter are clean. I been up to 2500mtr with standard jetting and no probs whatsoever (except for some backfiring on throttle shut off). Ride Safe JT ------------------ KTM LC4 640 Adventure-R 2001 Previous bikes... Hi! Can't help you with the altitude problem: I never experienced it, until 2600 meters above sea level.
The solenoid is a device that reduces noise between aprox 3500 and 4500 rpm. It's usefull for homologation purposes. I've disabled it by pulling it off. I've been at 3000m with my 2001 adventure.
standard jetting and no problems. My dealer says; just turn the airmixture-screw a little when having troubles. Freek (NL) |
at 3000mtrs we had no major problem but we were rideng at levels of 3500 to 5500 meters (peru, bolivia)As it turned out I droped my jet down to a 130 and it was better, mate did nothing to his bike and was ok. Infact the bikes road absoulute rings around the african twin, tenerra and BMW F650 we road with accross the bolivan salt flats (up to 5500 mtrs)
Bike trip over so now have to look for work, damm. Incendently amanged to fly our bikes from Buenous Aries to London for under $300 USD each - see Swiss cargo at the airport |
