Defender roof-racks
Hi all,
I've used a Brownchurch roof-rack for 18 years and its been bullet proof. Steel, welded, galvanised. Defender | Brownchurch The model I have has both front and rear support struts that bolt onto the bulkhead and rear body work which helps reduce the stress on the Defender roof which I'm guessing helps something from breaking. I built a little extension out the back of it as a sitting area. It's 28 years old and needs some tidying up and to be galvanised again ideally, some effort and cost involved, so I thought I'd look to see if they was any better options available. Requirements... It needs to be bullet proof for long bone shaking trips lasting years Reduced weight would be nice Reduced height - sitting lower to the roof would be nice Needs to offer protection to the rooftent on the side (not be too narrow) Ladder bolted onto the back for rooftent access (climb up ladder, stand on spare wheel, climb in) Thoughts welcome.... |
I had a local shop fabricate one to my specifications. Will galvanize it when it’s complete.
Should get it this week https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...839ad25def.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Looks pretty hard core mate!
Might be worth watching this video as it covers some good points around flex, leg strength etc - and a few of the comments are worth thinking about too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JmNPBKIyVE Send us some more pictures when its done - on and off your vehicle? |
A quick test fit.
