Does anyone know how good a tata TL4 TDI is?

We're thinking of getting rid of the landie, as it doesn't accomadate our 1 year old daughter, and getting this:

4 Berth Motorhome Demountable Camper & 4x4 Pickup Truck on eBay (end time 15-May-11 23:01:32 BST)

Anyone know anything about these trucks?

Get good breakdown / recovery insurance

But I guess the back can be moved to a more mainstream pickup (been driving a mazda b2500 double cab recently and quite impressed with it - same as ford ranger but no ford badge :D)

Whats the pickup worth without the demountable ?

I think the warning is in the text - its only done 35k and comes with a spare engine !

Well, Ollie, if you're back in the UK (welcome home), try having a chat with RC Hardings in Penzance! They sell and service Tatas.

Suspect the Tata will be like a Lada ie strongly built but still contrives to break down a lot.

Probably the Best advice: DON'T !!!

I sold some Tata pickups in OZ when Subaru stopped the pickup version(ute), as local farmers were looking for a cheap(cheaper than Toyota/nissan) farm runabout . They stood up to it pretty well , they are not the most sophisticated vehicles and are about same level of development as LADA but were reliable enough . IIRC it was dana axles and trans with Peugeot engine and mercedes body design (old presses) . HTSH

The good thing about TATA is - these rigs are pretty simple to fix. The not so good thing is, they need quite a bit of fixing when the going gets really rough. But drive it Indian style you can go a very long way till it really really breaksdown.

In India TATA dominates the streets and TATA parts are available at every corner and every 3rd person knows how to change a TATA crankshaft in the streets.

Drive this car in India and you'll be stopped in every town by people asking where you bought the slide-in unit. If you stay long enough, you probably make the local news. (no kidding)

Hee hee - the OP was interested in getting a Tata TL4 in the UK, so if it makes it all the way back to India it probably WOULD be worthy of getting in the news!!

That being said, the Indica (which became the CityRover briefly) wasn't so bad apart from the tinny feel, which they could have dealt with pretty easily with some better cloth/plastic/sound insulation but here I am guilty of hijacking a resurrected thread :offtopic:is that a breach of nettiquette?!
