Mecanical details to check on a 80 with 250K ?
So far we have changed:
- front bearings - drive shaft c.v. joint - fluid and filter in automatic transmission - a new turbo (from all american in Netherlands) - all brakes pads - add quite some injector cleaner fluid. Besides the clonk sound in the central diff the rest seems fine but I guess there must be issues to check on a vehicle with more than 250K on it. Any ideas ? TLC 80 1993 auto. Thanks in advance ! |
- You may have done this already if you have changed the drive shaft CV joints (unless you mean the UJs on the prop shafts) but each front CV joint has a little shaft with splines on it, which mates up with a flange that in turn is bolted to the front hubs. Check to make sure there isn't any play in this bit....it happened with mine and made me think I had play in my front diff. I didn't!
- Brake Discs? - Suspension rubber bushes? - Steering - any play / leakage in the box? - Swivel Bearings? - Axle seals? - Flush out cooling system? - TIMING BELT:stormy: - Shock absorbers? - Big End bearings? - Injector pump / injectors - if you are going to a place on your trip where there are lots of 80s eg Pakistan, I strongly suggest you look at getting these rebuilt there. It'll be a tenth or a fifth of the cost of getting it done here. |
yeh get your BEB's done....
and don't worry about the clonk...... all the older style gearboxes do that..... :thumbup1: |
Thanks Ilesmark
