Rooftent repairs - UK/Europe
Hi,
I have a Autohome tent - this model - nylon type material that's it bad shape, needs a few zips replaced and so forth. Autohome in Italy are proving very reluctant to help me in anyway unfortunately. Any suggestion for somewhere in Europe or the UK that could do this professionally please? http://shop.autohome-official.com/16...us-variant.jpg |
some info 4 U
Hi
I spoke to Derek at Scottish Mountain Gear and this is what he said in sum: Zips- no problems to replace Tears - can be repaired but they cannot colour match and would have to use the closest fabric type to yours. Most importantly the roof tent would have to be sent to them free of all frames/structures. If this helps, their info is here: www.scottishmountaingear.com are some of the leaders in repairs & Hilleberg recommend them too or you could try TuffTrek on the south coast of UK- they might be able to help or point you in the right direction as they sell roof tents. It won't be easy finding Yak thread thread though ;) Good luck |
Thanks mate, hugely appreciated!!
The material is just held into place by rivets on the top, I have removed it previously to have the mosquito nets replaced, so its kind of easy enough to do, just got to carefully drill out the rivets and pop out the bottom clips that hold it into place. I've sent them a request and some pictures, fingers crossed as I've been trying to resolve it for a year and Autohome have been reluctant to engage which is a shame as I'm a big fan of the tent.... |
Wishing you success! :thumbup1:

If you don't have any luck with Bertrand's suggestion I used CPL in Stockton a few years ago. Lovely people, couldn't be more helpful and great work. They don't have a website so best bet would be calling them. Same drill with a roof tent, canvas needs to be removed.

Scottish Mountain Gear turned me down claiming the tent had a bit of mould and couldn't be cleaned sufficiently before being sent to them ("health and safety") which was surprising... perhaps they just didn't fancy it.
CPL have confirmed they can do it "to a high standard" so it's winging it's way to them via courier. Call them for the email address, send some pictures and you're away... lets see how it turns out... ;) CPL 70 Brunswick St, Stockton-On-Tees, TS18 1DW +441642 678149 |
Completing the thread....
CPL did a great job and charged the princely sum of £20. They managed to save the zips that I thought needed replacement by (magically) unsticking the sliders that were corroded stuck, replacing 6 of them and waxing all 10 zips. (All done remotely, I couriered it to them via DPD and then arranged pickup again, they just print the label and stick it on etc) :D!!I couldn't be more pleased, go CPL!!:D |
Now looking to clean the tent material as its fairly stained from African dust.
Wondering if there is anything that won't damage the material which I believe is Fabric Airtex which is some kind of breathable nylon/gortex etc Anything from Nikwax etc going to work well? |
