Water separator/sedimenter - diesel pre-filter
Contaminated fuel is a serious issue in less developed countries and unsurprisingly Tom Sheppard recommends the fitting of a sedimenter in his inimical tome VDEG (2.6-16 & 4.2-10, to save you trawling the index if you have that volume to hand)
One such piece of kit that was previously recommended was the Parker-Racor but I don't find this when searching on t'interweb. Please could fellow users recommend a source or an alternative product. The intended use is for a 1HZ diesel motor (4.2L / 6 cyls, 96kw/130bhp) in a HZJ78L Toyota LandCruiser "Troopy" , and location primarily Sahara Desert. Thanks in anticipation of any constructive advice. Merharba, ma'asalaam. |

Hi Budric I did read severall times about travelers who got stranded because the fuel flow pressure wasnt that what it should be. Because of an additional aftermarket fuel filtre. I suggest to query at your mechanic about different fuel filtre models for your car. For some brands are different filtres available. Today you can see brand new modern cars in each capital. Cars who are sensitive to fuel quality. So you had to worry more at tiny fuel stations at the road side. Or from fuels out of barrel or bottles. For my transafrica I did decide personally to use an external fuel filtre. Yes, it is not nice to filter at this stage, but it is safe. You dont want shitty fuel in your tank on an extended journey. Article: English language: https://vanlife.4x4tripping.com/2021...el-filter.html German language: https://www.4x4tripping.com/2014/08/...Fernreise.html Hints: - use safe fuel stations in capitals - use fuel cans or aux. tanks to extend your range - use an external filter for those rare moments, where your range didnt get you to a safe fuelstation. (size matters with the external filters, bigger let you tank quicker) I did use a brand new landcruiser 200, V8 Diesel Biturbo with 289hp and 650nm for the transafrica. Did work with that suggestions, even with that car. Surfy |

My SE-Asia supplied 60 series has this system, and also a buzzer to alert you to the separator needing draining, just in case the bulb fails or the operator is blind. EO |
