Turtle Camp West Coast Mexico
My wife and I just spent 16 days at a turtle camp, about 2 hours north of Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.
Superbasic accomodation, but great work and beautiful to help the turtles out. You can contact 'Gordon' on gordon~@cas~adelcoraz~onplt.~com (but take the ~'s out!) They ask you to pay 100USD for the first 10 days "which covers transport costs, gas and electricity", but as we came with our own bikes we managed to agree with him to pay much less. Season starts in June I think, until November. The camp is located on a beautiful quiet beach near Platanitos, Nayarit, Mexico. Nice mexicans help out in the camp, and they taught me how to get the coconuts open and catch and cook crabs; really nice. |
Sounds like a sweet trip. Did you ride down there, etc?
Maybe post a few pics and some more details! |
yeah, was a nice trip indeed! We drove down from Toronto, Canada...
The road to the camp is unpaved, 9.8kms. Pretty bad in the rainy season, we had to drive through 1,5 feet of water with the bikes after heavy rainfall. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/DaanDus/tc1.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a113/DaanDus/tc2.jpg Every evening we walked a few km's of beach to search for nests. During the day, you can help them out with anything. We painted some walls, did maintenance on the ATV's etc. |
