Any advice with Taba border?
Hello,
I am in Suez, and I will try to reach Taba tomorrow. Any advice on crossing the border? Should I maybe try to sleep in Taba and cross next mornign -if it is a 8 hour procedure-. Is it that hard in Israel?. How about the Egyptian side, who gets my license plates and shit?. Fixers needed?. I have Sudanese visa stamped, but I can prove I've been in 60 countries in this trip, and I have photos and videos to show. Cheers. |
I will answer myself for future traveller's reference:
The process is very straightforward on both sides. No fixers around, nor needed. I crossed from Egypt to Israel. Egypt side is a 1.5 hour process, you are guided all the time by friendly agents. The cost is around 50 LE. Israel side: 5.5 hours, free. You are guided as well by agents and signs as you struggle with half of the population of Moscow. They make you unload all packages and they x-ray them. Then you go through passports and if you have visited arabic countries, you get the privilege of an interview with a very polite agent that takes around 30 minutes an then takes her time to come up with a veredict. Insurance, banking services and cafeteria are within 20 meters. They take your bike to a secret garage and proceed to explore everything and you are not allowed to be present. In general, the border seems to be madly paranoic. |
This is very helpful, thank you for posting.
What is your next move now that you are in Israel? I am in Luxor now and want to ship the bike to the US from Israel. Any advise? Thanks again Mike |
The insurance for the bike was an amazing 100 USD approx. for 15 days. Israel is a very expensive country.
I am currently working on how to get out of here. I was quoted by Grimaldi 700 Eur for a trip with my bike from Israel (Ashdod) to Italy, wich I accepted. Then they told me all the inside cabins were sold out, and that if I wanted an exterior one would be 950, wich I accepted. Then they told me that I had to go on a first class one because blahblah and the trip was gonna be 1200. So I kinda said no. I am right now studying the possibility of flying the bike to Istambul or Athens. I can keep you posted on the different prizes I am getting from cargo companies here if you wish. |
Im trying to cross from Israel back to Europe by boat or land.
