Buy a motorcycle in Iran
 

Hi all,

is there a way around buying a motorcycle in iran? Can anyone suggest me somewhere in Tehran that could help me? I am not Iranian, Im Canadian.

Your best bet is to contact the HU communities in Iran. However, be aware that there is a 125cc restriction in force.

Not flavour of the month in Tehran then... :(

Really? There is a 125cc restriction? I hadn't heard that. What of the famously helpful BMW shop in Tehran? This law would run them out of business. I never went there myself but they rebuilt my friends Suzuki Djebel. There was no problem getting my 1000cc BMW in. Is this a new restriction?

you can get any size of bike into iran if you're a foreigner. if you're a local, there's a restriction. i looked into buying a bike when i was there a few months back (i had to leave my KLR 650 in syria due to a paperwork issue... but that's a long story and not very interesting, either.)

did you find one to buy? is yes.... tell me where and how and how about registrations and how about the gas card....

For all of the reasons you just listed, I did not purchase a bike in Iran. It's just too complicated. In the end, I toured around by bus and train, then I flew back to Syria to rejoin my bike. Sorry I can't help... except to say it would be much easier to bring the bike in from abroad.

I find it not worth a 2 month trip to Iran... send the bike there and bring it back... too much $$ for a simple 2 month tour of Iran.

I still hope I can make it.

I'm an Persian / American and MX rider for 32 years. I know it's very late for your answer but I thought to give my answer anyway for future referrences ?c?. Motorcycle over 250 CCin Iran after the revolution has become illegal so like every illegal things created black market, Smuggling Mafia, And Ripp off dishonest sales people. I myself have been ripped off many times by people that I knew as an friend :offtopic:. One of them named Mehrshad Naraghi. His daughter recently won ( Between no competition ) Female racing. So, One who want to buy motorcycle in Iran, Specially an outsider must expect to get ripped off :(. Best bet for you and people like you visiting is to come to Iran with your own bike :scooter:. They allow it with the condition that you will leave Iran with the same bike after I think up to 6 months :thumbup1:. So don't pay the crooks and buy junk, Just bring in your bike. Another belated reply, but for the sake of extra info . . .

I was in Iran for 5mths in 2007 and looked into buying an Iranian 125cc.
Prices were roughly equiv £300 for a new bike with option to sell-back - the usual Chinese rip-off of Yamaha model though would do the job - though I went off the idea since the fuel ration came in.

While in Lorestan province, however, having discovered a way around the
fuel ration (I think the ration was quartely, though could be used up in a
week if you so chose) I sold the bicycle I had resorted to riding - which was killing me - and bought a second hand motorbike for c£100. I was punching the air with joy as I rode out of town for the hills . . . right up until the police caught up with me a day later and promptly made me sell it back to the super guy who had sold it to me. Apparently foreigners are not allowed to buy Iranian bikes, though I wasn't sure if they made that up just for me, since the authorities seem to assume travellers off the beaten track are spies. Anyway, it was an amusing adventure involving several arrests and thumb prints, though all done with impeccable Persian etiquette.

So, as the other threads state, take your own bike in with a carnet. No cc limit and have a wonderful time in a fascinating country.
