Carnet for Jordan?

Hi - can anyone tell me whether it's possible to ge in and out of Jordan without a carnet? Can you buy a laisser-passez at the border or is it a no-go without the carnet?

Thanks in advance to anyone with the info.

You do not need a carnet for Jordan. My carnet had expired when I went through Jordan, so they gave me a simple temporary importation document. From memory it cost around 50JD.

carnet. jordan

Matt, be it 3 years ago when your message was left i have been thinking over what you have put, all guide books say you need a carnet, however maybe you got away with it because you had an expired one! if you rolled up to the border without one, the story could be different!

Hi,

Slightly more up to date information then, cihb55, as of October 2009 the guide books are wrong. Both Syria and Jordan are quite happy to give (us Brits and Irish) visas and temporary carnets at the border. It might vary by border crossing, mind.

For a motorbike:

At Kilis into Syria: tourist visa EUR38 (UK) and EUR36 (Ire); carnet EUR60?; green card EUR22?

At Deraa into Jordan: tourist visa JD10; carnet JD20; green card JD7.50 (1JD==1EUR)

Cheers,

Ian

My experience is the same: last year I rode these two Countries from Italy, and no Carnet was ever required at the borders.
They did the necessary paperwork directly there for a small amount of US$.

I must also say that the custom officers were always kind, polite and cooperating.
