Diesel or Petrol, Preferences in ME
Can I ask you guys, in general is it better to avoid going in a diesel to the Middle East alltogether? I think I have heard Iran also doesn't like diesels. Also in one post I have read diesel is more then twice as expensive as fuel (petrol), at least in some countries. All info welcome as I am making a buying decision (car/4x4/van don't know yet) right now for next trip, after West Africa.
Kind Regards Manfred, still in Casablanca. |
Iran - petrol cards for petrol, diesel freely available. Petrol 4-times diesel price.
UAE - diesel roughly 50% more expensive than petrol. Oman - diesel slightly cheaper than petrol. Yemen - IDEM. Saudi - IDEM. Jordan - petrol much more expensive than diesel. Syria - IDEM. Diesel tax for diesel vehicles. Lebanon - Diesel slightly cheaper than petrol. Ban for foreign diesel vehicles. Egypt - Petrol 3-times diesel price. Libya - practically the same price for both fuel types. Hope this helps. Cheers, DS |
"Egypt - Petrol 3-times diesel price."
Don't know where you got that figure from. Currently, as at 7:45 on 3rd July, diesel is 1.10 LE per litre, petrol is 1.85 LE per litre. |
