Diving in Oman. Recommendations?
I am looking to drive/bike down to Oman from Saudi in September. There may be a few of us, maybe bringing trail bikes on a trailer, some riding maybe.
Anyway, whilst there we are hoping to fit in some diving. Can anybody recommend a good dive operator around Muscat /Oman and reasonable accomodation? Regardions RedS |
Diving in MCT
Yes you can dive out of Muscat at the dive center befor the Shang ri lah hotel. There is also camping available there as well.
Hope this helps Cheers Dingo |
oman dive centre
The one referred to in the previous reply is the Oman Dive Center, real nice crew and very help full, dont assume you can camp there , they have huts for rent but they are not always keen on camping, you need to check with them although I have seen bike groups there before, if interested I will get you contact numbers

The best place for diving (to get back on topic) is either Al Sawadi, the demaniyat island or further down is mazeera island. |
I've been in oman 2 yrs but only just found this forum, I have been dirt biking since I got here and am now looking to get a mid size road bike and do a bit of touring, living in muscat seeb area where there a few riding groups and friends who bike together
Sounds like you are on a good trip , all the best Ken |

Dirt biking companions in UAE
Hi Stephano,
How does the off-road biking community look like in the UAE? Any pass-byers welcome? Will be around at the end of December... Cheers, DS |

LC4 Adv
Hi Stephano,
Thanks for the hospitality. I'll be having a KTM LC4 Adventure with me, a bit heavy one but still approved in Libya and Jordan. :) See you! DS |

Do yourself a favour and get an enduro. There are quite a few great places in Oman where you are better off with one, rather than a road bike. For example, my friend was struggling with his R100GS in the Wahiba Sands, but it was fun on my DR650. However, finding dual purpose tyres in Oman will be mission impossible, you will have to import them yourself. Hi Stephan! I flew right over Sharjah twice the other day and had to think of you. Cheers, Peter. |
Flying?
Peter,
What are you doing flying mate, shouldn't you be riding?.... I had to fly out of Djibouti as well, run out of time waiting for the slow boat, but had a great time waiting. Yes your right, it's an amazing country, but don't get caught in a dust storm, not good for the bike mate! Cheers Ivan |
Well, you know, one flew over the cuckoo's nest... :-)
Indian visas are now non-extendable (I tried), so I ended up in Nepal during the monsoon. It's not too bad, but you don't see any mountains. Had to wait about 5 weeks until we can go to Tibet. A few bits broke down. My father had an accident. After all that it seemed logical to visit my parents. My Qatar flight passed pretty much over Stephan's home. |

My dad is walking again (on crutches), so he seems on track. Thanks. I'm just now looking at the pix. Cheers, Peter, Petrol-hunting in muggy Kathmandu. |
