Have any Brits entered Syria recently, buying their visa at the boarder ?
I went to the Syria embassy (Brussels) this morning and was told, traveling on a UK passport I could only have a single entry visa for €85 if I wanted to re-enter I would need to buy one at the boarder. As I’ve left it a little late, I leave in 3 weeks and was told it would certainly take 2 weeks if not more !!!! I decided to give it a go … I plan on crossing at Kilis and if this doesn’t work then any other boarders I can find … I’ll
I’m also guessing but would think the Brits and Yanks are paying top money for their visa’s … Your comments please Salut Matt |
shouldnt be a problem....
I know Im not a brit, but coming from the Jordan side a couple of weeks ago, I took the trouble to go to the Syrian embassy in Amman to get a visa. They shooed me away, and told me to get it at the border. And so it worked out. Cant see it being any different for a pom.....
Good luck, Boot. |

Mission completed!
Job's done. Rescued Charlie's bike from Jordan, took it to Munich, via 14 countries, and arrived back in Oz this morning. I s'pose I should ring him to let him know! And mayhaps to suggest a full retreival next year ........:thumbup1:

I used Kilis and found it very efficient. (I'm Canadian.) In fact, I got turned away at another border crossing because they didn't issue visas there and they recommended Kilis. No problems, even for Brits. Just use your head! If they ask where you are going, don't say Israel! :stupid:

I got my Syrian visa from Brussels last year and it only took 3 days not 3 weeks. The price was also around €85 if I recall. The folks at the embassy were very helpful and it all went very smoothly.... and I'm a Brit too.

I had a bad experience, trying to enter Syria on the main road from Amman to Damascus.
After 6 hours of waiting, I still had no visa in my hands (although they said, it was possible, I just needed to wait). As I had a meeting in Beirut the next morning, I chose to drive back to Amman and took a plane directly to Beirut. |

Visa at Border to Syria
Hello all,
I am living since some time in Beirut/Lebanon. I am crossing regularly different borders to Syria. At least most European passport holders can get a visa at the border for USD 32.00, US-passport holders pay USD 64.00 etc. If you should have Syrian Pound and want to pay with them your visa, forget about it, you are not able to use them instead foreign currency. You have to change good western currency to enter. Don't forget to keep 500 Syrian Pounds for leaving the country. Good luck Lalli |
Hallo Lalli,
Isn't it possible to pay with foreign currency when you leave Syria?. And how much is 500 Syrian pounds in euro's? Thanks Rinus |
500 SYP = € 8.50 (+/-) OANDA, The Currency Site: Foreign Exchange Services and Trading fxconvertor .

SYP 500 for leaving Syria
Hi Rinus,
I recently crossed the border again to Syria and out. The currency issue is really funny. As you know you can get visa at the border (for Germans it is USD 32.00). I had the equivalent sum in SYP but they were not accepted. I had to change good money and went with the bank receipt to the police officer again. Then I had to buy insurance for the motorbike they only accepted USD. After I changed I went with the SYP and the receipt to the insurance office. The customers again, wanted a fee of 8 USD, guess what... right again to the bank, change money and back to the customs with SYP and receipt again. The way out you have to pay the exit tax of SYP 500 (mid of October) in local currency since this is usually sold at a local kiosk. Have a nice trip to Syria and enjoy arabic socialism, Lalli |
