International Driving Permit, Lebanon
I'm reading that you need an International Driving Permit (IDP) to enter Lebanon. Is this true? (I don't have one.) Now, I'm optimistic, because the same sources that say you need an IDP also say you can't get a Syrian Visa at the Syrian border, but I did without problems.
Anyone with information? Thanks |
I just checked the homepage of the German ADAC. According to them you need an IDP and international vehicle registration papers.
And yes, they also state that a visa for Syria has to be applied for in advance ;-) But apparently for Syria no IDP is mandatory. Good luck! Hans |
Idp
I have an IDP and Lebanon is not on the list of participating countries, at least not as the spelling goes but there is an entry spelled Liban ???
I always thought an IDP was one of the first things to obtain before setting off on your travels. Cheers Ian :thumbup1: |
Liban is Lebanon. Thanks for the dig, by the way. I used to get an IDP before every trip and never once had to use it, so I didn't bother (or forgot) this time. Yeah, I've done a lot of things the wrong way, or neglected to do the right things, at least I'm riding! Also, I made it into "Liban" without the IDP. Perhaps it will be a problem if I get stopped somewhere, perhaps not. Most Lebanese seem to speak English, anyway.

Liban
I know what you mean, done similar things myself but have found that the time you really need these variouse papers is when your in the sh*t. I have been stopped by police over in Saudi at check points and like you say they don't ask for half the stuff. I once had to detour 200klms because the police man could not read my documents and that was his fault not my docs.
Cheers Ian :thumbup1: ps sorry about the dig. Have a nice ride. |
They don't ask for the IDP at the Lebanese border. Actually, when I was travelling around eastern Mediterranean, I only had to show the license once. That was in Egypt and they were happy with my national one. Probably they would have also been happy even if I passed it to the officer upside down.
