I never had a card but if you hang around the gas stations long enough, I found someone would always help me out.

The situation changes frequently.
I was there from Jan to Mar this year. For petrol, you only needed a card to buy petrol at the old subsidised rate (100 tomans), you could buy it at the market rate without a card. That was 400 tomans (about US$0.40), but there was talk of putting it up to 500. Many stations sell 'super' for 500 tomans (may have gone up though). I don't know much about petrol, but I think the ordinary stuff is 92 and 'super' 95. It's pretty poor quality as far as I know. Daniel |
Sorry to hijack the thread. Anyone with recent experience of getting the Pakistan visa in Tehran?
|
There's no problem at all to get fuel, maybe sometimes they run out of super but I've got petrol at every station I've stopped. 30 liters for 110 000IR
I read something about getting the card on the lonely planet guide but I don't have it so I can't tell you. I've asked everywhere but not able to get it, it is said it's for iranians only. Sorry, I don't know about getting the Pakistan visa in Tehran. I hope this is useful for you all. Is any body crossing to pakistan this month or next?? |
Two french guys just came from tehran and told me they couldn't get the visa for Pakistan as they don't do it for foreign people

Fuel in Iran as of August 2010
Hello All,
To clarify Iran as I've just left there after 12 days, riding South East to North West. Fuel is plentiful and no issue with "fuel cards". The idea of the card is to give the locals a "price break" for the first 300 litres of fuel they buy a month. They pay a cheaper R1000 a litre for the first 300 litres with the card, then it jumps to R4000 a litre ( about 40 cents) As a foriegner you won't get a card now, nor do you need one, you just pay the higher price - it's still a real bargain and the Pig didn't ping on it loaded like it did in India and Pakistan fuels. You turn up at the bowser, say "Benzine - No card" and the attendent punches a few buttons and you fill her up. They call it Benzine, Petrol sometimes isn't understood. Hope this helps. Cheers ! Frank. |
