Shipping bikes from Tehran to Dehli?

Hi Everyone,

I could not find any thread on this so here we go: does anybody have experience/knowledge on how to ship 2 small bikes (125cc) from Tehran to Dehli? Companies, prices, time...? We would like to avoid going to the UAE and Mumbai.

Thanks a lot,

Romain

Hello Saleh,

Do you know the costs involved to ship to dubai and then ship to Mumbai an can this be done in reverse? I.e. Mumbai to Dubai an so on?

I am looking to do a roadtrip from Uk to Pakistan and currently consdering whether I shud ship to Bandar Abbas to Dubai then onto Mumbai an drive in from Lahore. THen repeat the same in reverse. As currenntly the situation in Quetta an beyond seems unsafe to travel on your own due to bombings etc. I am looking to ship a car and will be entering with carnet.

Hi Blessing

Pakistan is not recommended to pass bye and it does not work the risk you are taking to enter.
i meet few travelers during the last 3 month and their plan was to enter Pakistan but due to the security reasons they change the plan and ride up to Bander Abbas and crossover to Sharjah, UAE.

then they ship from Dubai or Sharjah to Bumbai (all the above where traveling on motorcycles & some of them use Air Fright and some used Sea Fright)

based on the current shipping experience throw Sea fright for 3 Bikes its cost less than 1000$ in a container + clearing the custom in Bombay, i will be meeting the travelers tonight and i will get some more info about the shipping company and the exact cost.

during the coming period we will ship a tuk tuk from Dubai to Bombay, and at the end of Feb 2013 the Hubb used AdventureBug will also do the same.

please advice if you need additional info's
Regards
Saleh

There probably aren't any ferries from the Gulf to India.

Clearing the customs in Mumbai could be interesting.

Is Balochistan really so dangerous now, and why?

Wrong place at the wrong time could happen in many other areas, too.

In Iran, we got invited to stay with a family in Esfahan. We didn´t know these people beforehand, and they treated us like old friends, really a mind-blowing experience for me (especially because the media over here usually paints a very different picture of Iran!).... but anyway, the head of the family once said, that if we want, he would like to come with his car to be our “guide”, if we´d go to Tehran or Shiraz, for example. But that he would never, ever go anywhere east from Bam, and adviced us also to not go there, as it´s too dangerous.

In fact he wasn´t the only one. Several people in Iran thought that border areas close to Pakistan, and also the adjoining area in Pakistan are very dangerous. But we wanted to go overland to India, so we did go there, and got through there without any problems (only the police escorts were painfully slow at times). This was 5 years ago, and the reputation of those areas seems to have changed very little. I´m sure there is actually some truth behind that reputation, there´s drugs and arms smuggling, and tribal law areas. So the dangers should not be overlooked, that would be stupid. But regarding foreign travellers, have there lately been any real safety issues reported? Only the Swiss couple, who were abducted, comes to my mind. And I believe that even this incident had taken place east from Quetta, and these people had somehow gone into an area, that the police should not allow foreigners to go.

5 years ago it was true as i always adviced for my guests to not going to near border areas and pakistan as well because Since there was a terrorist group that was destroyed by police around 2 years ago,and now is really safe without any problems.

you can have look for stories about pakistan:

Hello Pecha72,

Is clearing customs in Mumbai a hassle? I mean is it full of scams or pretty straight forward with the normal delays that occur inthis part of the world?

Balochistan is having a bomb blast or police men killed almost on daily basis. I mean a bomb exploded on Shia bus only a few days ago. MY biggest problem is that although I am willng to go through Balochistan no one else is, Therefore If I do cross I will be completely on my own, Not knowing what sort of reception I will be getting I was thinkin of alternative route via ferry.

Although there have been no attacks on forign people lately, Visiably I look asian, So I am unsure if I will be treated like a forigner or local person and how each of that will have effect on me, I mean will they not offer me a escort because I appear to look asian? Also will be better off this way because I do blend in with the locals so anybody who has issues with forigners will think am a local and spare me? The only thing that would give it away is my british number plates.

Hi Blessings,
Local law enforcement people in Pakistan make sure tourists dont get in the wrong places, however if you wanna be more carefull you can take a train accross Balochistan. They are not great but work and you can travel in them with your bike,

About the abducted Swiss couple; they were kidnapped in an area where even I wont go neither the local police would let me go. How they reached there is a big question mark sounding dubious.

Regards
Omar

I haven´t shipped to Mumbai. I have shipped (by air) out of Chennai, though,
and that backed up what others had already told me: that shipping + India
is a
bad combination – or at the very least, it is very time-consuming and
laborous
to do it!

I´ve also ridden a bit in Mumbai. Oh boy, what a humongous traffic jam that
place was!! And when you do shipping, you often need to go to some offices
around the city, which is not very easy in a city of +10 million people (and
when your bike is packed, you naturally can´t use it, so you need other transport). Accommodation also seemed very expensive compared to elsewhere in
India. I won´t say it´s un-doable, because it´s not, but I can almost guarantee it´ll give you some sort of headache....

I am looking to start through Europe on 1st April 2013, I am looking to be crossing Iran/Pakistan border roughley 10th April 2013. This date will only depend on if I get my Iran visa's in time which I am applying end of January. They are only valid for three months so I have to apply late as possble to keep it within 3 months.

I could postpone and do it in September but unsure If i will be able to get time off from work. Securing this leave was massive hassle in itself.

So do you think its a busy crossing and most german tourists use it?
