sudan -saoud arabia crossing
Helo,
I want to cross from Ethiopia to Sudan to Saoudie Arabia with my car to get back to the Netherlands. I cannot enter Egypt because of a unvalid Carnet. Does anybody have some recent information on taking the ferry from Suakin to Jiddah? Things I would like to know are: costs, safety in Saoudi Arabia. How and where to get a transit visa for this country. How save is it for western people to drive trough this country at the moment? Thnx |

Hi,
take a look at the website www.camelworld.com This guy crossed Sudan - Saoudi Arabia earlier this year. He travelled together with a dutch couple at the time, but this couple couldn't get a Saoudi visa as they weren't married. I hope this is not bad news... Good luck, Koen [This message has been edited by mertens_k (edited 02 June 2004).] [This message has been edited by mertens_k (edited 02 June 2004).] |
Get visa in advance in Sudan. If you are not married you have no chance.Try for 'tourist'visa as transit visa will only last 72hrs which is more than enough to drive up to Jordan but no time to see interesting sites on the way.If you get extended time go to English bookshop in Jeddah and get 'Daytrips From Jeddah'that will show what can be achieved.
Personal security and driving is OK despite recent isolated incidents. Its as hot as Hell there in the summer |
