Work in Canada

I will be arriving in BC, Canada in June '09. I will be there for a month or so before meeting a mate in Nova Scotia to start a bike trip around. I will have a 12 month work visa. Is it likely that I will be able to get work in the Vancouver area to start with, and then casual work here and there around the country to help fund the trip?

Thanks

Out West Yes

Without knowing what skill set you are bringing with you I can't be very specific. As of right now there is a constant need for workers in the service industry and the unskilled labour market through out Western Canada. Once you get East of Saskatchewan I can't comment however if a person wants to work I think it is possible.

Have fun

Rick

Thanks Rick.

I have quite a wide range of skills and experience from tourism (boat driving, diving, guiding etc) to emergency services, security and construction. I have also done bits and bobs in the hospitality and farming industries. I don't mind what I do, just something to help with funds on the road. Thanks for your advice: west is best.

are things in canada as bad as the uk ? i was thinking of looking for some joinery work in september .is this going to happen ?

Being a retired carpenter whose retirement plan has been wiped in half, I can give you some info for Calgary where they say we have the lowest unemployment rate in the country. Finding joiner work here right now would be difficult, I look in the want ads everyday and maybe 1 to 2 jobs in that field appear each week, recent layoffs in the construction trades have put 100's of workers out looking for a new job I know I am one of them, althought I still only need part time work and I have years of contacts,I still only manage to get 2 or if I am lucky 3 days of work per week.
