Can you now drive from Mauritania into Morocco / Western Sahara?
It's March 12, 2022, and I've heard all sorts of stories about traveling overland from Mauritania to Morocco / Western Sahara.
This site claims, "The border to Mauritania has re-opened to foreigners." The same site says, "Border with Morocco said to be open southbound." Do you know anyone who has driven from Mauritania to Morocco overland in 2022? If so, are there any special things I ought to be aware of? :helpsmilie: |
Officially the border is closed but the Moroccans are allowing people to travel south. Last confirmed crossing was a month ago.
But it is not open north bound. Only 2 confirmed crossings in the last year. 1 took weeks to get special permission and the other managed to cross as a freight vehicle after loading their truck with tents |
Thanks. I'll stay in Mauritania for another month or two.
If the situation changes, I hope someone will post the news on this thread. Thank you! |
Just heard from someone in Dakhla who has confirmed with the local authorities the border is still closed north bound

Border opened northbound on the 4th April

Yes, it's open
Yeah, I heard the same news from another source.
Unfortunately for me, I flew from Mauritania to Morocco 10 days before the border opened since I had no idea when it would open. doh I didn't want to wait for months. The one-way flight cost $317 :funmeterno: |
