I most recently did the N12 piste from Zagora to Foum Zguid in January this year and it is in the process of being widened, levelled and tarmaced. Completion is expected mid 2014.

The more difficult sandy section has already gone, what's left is fairly gentle.

I rode from Zagora to Foum-Zguid in May,it was "interesting" on a loaded Africa Twin with a pillion,the many trucks servicing the roadworks being the biggest challenge, every time a large cloud of dust appeared ahead it was time to get off the piste,onto the sand or deep gravel at the side till the truck passed then struggle back on track and then repeat the process ,time after time,took about six hours,certainly felt like i'd had an adventure by the time I reached Foum -Zguid,which is the reason we ride in Morocco after all!a lot of the tarring had been done,though it was all blocked off with stones to stop it being used.

Improvement to road from Zagora
 

The road to foum Zguid from Zagora has now improved beyond all measure with tarmac and 2 lanes now. I counted 13 diversions for bridges where work is still taking place

Would it be driven by a 2wd campervan now please?

No problem in a camper van. Cars, vans and small trucks are using it regularly. When we were there in October there were only a handful of diversions left and I would expect they'll be completed by the end of the year.
However, the current rains may have undone much of the work. Ask in FZ or Zag for latest advice.
