loop Gorge du Dadès to Gorge du Todra

Hi,

anybody knows if it's possible to do the loop from the "Gorge du Dadès" to the " Gorge du Todra"? I know there about 45 kms on dirt track from Msemrir to Tamtattouchte but I'd like to know precisely if it can be done with a Honda Transalp?

Thanks

TheWarden 29 Oct 2015 20:20

Did it last week in a Landcruiser, few careful bits for us but nothing major. I would say its easy for bikes atm but I'm not a biker

mamos 29 Oct 2015 22:51

thanks the warden, for sure it's more easy with the 4X4;-)
Anyway it's good to know that at least the track is not closed!
best

TheWarden 29 Oct 2015 23:11

Just watched some of my gopro clips and there was a few rocky section but fairly short and a couple of sections when we had to search a little for the track on foot

mamos 29 Oct 2015 23:25

thanks for the tips the warden, it will help me to figure out what to expect:thumbup1:

Tim Cullis 30 Oct 2015 14:07

The route basically is a series of river beds linked with some higher sections, so each time there's heavy rain the piste gets severely knocked about and it's never the same one year to the next.

You *should* be fine with a Transalp.

Thanks Tim, great report of the route:clap:

JamesC 31 Oct 2015 21:56

Im very interested in this route as myself and a friend will be in this area in April next year. Is there any chance anyone could post up a map or some type of the route? Especially start and finish points.
Would be very helpful, thanks.

Post removed, I was mistakenly talking about the cirque de jaffar not the gorge link.

Thanks for this information, its giving me more ideas for our 2 week trip. Looking on Google earth myself and cross referencing the route on the map you posted I can see the track. We will be on a XTZ 750 Super Tenere and a F650 GS but not looking for anything to challenging. I may get back to you about more details, your input is much appreciated.

I did that route in december last year with a small 4x4.
Todra up the R703 and then down R704 to Dades.

BUT
After going down the R704 for 1,5hours, the track was too deep and wet and ending in 1m deep snow with no tracks in it.

Tried to get as far as possible but with only one car and no winch, we turned around and had to drive all the way back to get to dades via N10. Didn't want to get stuck up there or even worse crash. The track is very narrow for a car and with 1m snow on it, you could easily slide down the side of the road.

Maybe it was only a cold winter, but keep in mind, that the R704 might be blocked by snow.

JamesC 14 Nov 2015 09:35

So are the R703 and R704 not asphalt all the way? I took a guess they were, I've never been to Morocco, my trip in April will be my 1st time and wanted some light off roading but obviously don't want to get myself stuck or lost.

Tim Cullis 15 Nov 2015 07:17

d.sanchez: The thread was originally discussing the link piste from M'semrir in the Dades to Tamtattouchte in the Todra rather than going via Agoudal.

JamesC: The R703 (Todra) is tarmac all the way, the R704 (Dades) is piste running south from Agoudal for 43km then the tarmac starts again about 20km north of M'semrir.

In good conditions the Upper Dades route is suitable for riders/drivers with no technical expertise, however in poor conditions, particularly after heavy rains, this may no longer be the case. You certainly shouldn't be doing this route in snow.

Ok, now i understand.
I saw this crossing, but as it was deep in the night when we returned we didn't try that route. Unfortunately i didn't know this road before.

May I ask how long it took you and what bikes you were on please?

seeb 30 Dec 2015 22:10

Did it in a car. Had to keep it slow and take too many breaks because of a baby & pregnant wife in the car. Took us 9 hours. I reckon on my AT I can easily do this under 6 hours

Andrea XR 27 Mar 2016 15:23

Hi to all, any news about this road ? (gorges-gorges)
I'll be there 8th of april 2016 with 8 offroad bikes and 2 4x4

thanks in advance

Peter83 7 Apr 2016 23:00

Hi,

did that crossing over tizi n'uguent today with full luggage on my bike, therefore was hard work for me, but should be ok for you. The Msemrir side runs up completely in the riverbed, rocky sections, everything dry, but sometimes tricky. Tamtattouchte side is only partially in the riverbed and mostly on gravel road.
No traffic at all ;)

Please let me know how it was for you...

Andrea XR 18 Apr 2016 08:18

Hi, do it !
from Dades side to Todra side
some difficult to find the start of the route, but locals help us
8 light bike (150kg) without luggages and 2 4x4 with prepared suspensions,
about three hours to complete, not a funny road to drive but wonderful places.
the highest altitude reached is about 2630 mt

latest info on Todra-Dades

Is there anybody who has done the Todra-Dades route within the last couple of months able to comment on the conditions? Depending on the weather I hope to do it in about 10 days time in a TLC. Last did it in 1970 in an ex-Military 3 ton Bedford RL with 20 punters in the back but in those days I was fearless! If it's rained or there's any snow I shall give it a miss.

Shame about the Hotel Yasmina at the entrance to the gorge - I've been using it for the past 45 years. Looking for an alternative around there, any personal recommendations - I'm travelling with a couple of discerning clients!

Peter Girling 2 Nov 2016 18:04

Hi John,

It was pretty beaten up last April, not sure I'd attempt it in a solo vehicle. Would probably do Agoudal - Dades as the route to Todra is virtually all tarmac from Agoudal-Tamttetouchte and down into the gorge. Thye neck of the gorge was busted up.

Happy trails,

Peter

loop Gorge du Dadès to Gorge du Todra

We have done the route from Dades valley to Agoudal and down to Todhra on 29.10.16 with 2 heavy motorbikes.
There were 2 days with strong rain some days before. We had many River crossings, but nothing really challenging. The piste is doable altough without 4x4.
Have fun
Stefan

Thanks Pete, I'll probably take the tarmac up to Agoudal - did it last year in the Classic Land Rover magazine
'79 Series 3 - and then hang a left and loop back down the Dades.

Thanks for the up to date information Stefan, I guessed it might have rained about this time, I will check conditions on the spot next week.

cheers

Daddes

We just rode Boumalne To Agadoul & then down to Todra Gorge, road was OK the landscape was awesome.....but the temperature overnight in Agadoul was -8c. Anybody with experience on a motorbike could do it, but a vehicle would need to be a 4x4 I think !!!

Cheers
Paul

Met a Dutchman who road fromTamtattouchte to Msemrir & he was very distressed !!!! lol

John H,We were there in November 2106 , with 6 vehicles took along time to get through no clear route, river beds and rocks all the way, took about 6 hrs

Tim Cullis 26 Jan 2017 10:58

Mud was a real problem for us one of the times I did this route. I was in the rear of about four or five bikes. The first two bikes tended to chew up the soft ground, the next two really rubbished what was left, and I ended up with the front wheel unable to turn due to the mud build-up between the tyre and mudguard.

That was on a F650GS twin and after the trip I fitted a mudguard modification to raise the guard by 50mm.

moby_gr 23 Mar 2018 19:09

Hi all, what about this year's road condition (I mean from Agoudal to M'semrir)? :scooter:

priffe 24 Mar 2018 01:17

I heard Dades was closed due to snow only couple days ago.

At new years it was fine met this dude near the summit at 2900 meters

Dades-Todra route

Can anyone provide a more recent report? Specifically:
1. Condition of the short loop from Msemrir to Tamtetoucht and/or
2. Road surface of the long loop via Agoudal - is it tarmac all the way?

TheWarden 5 May 2023 17:13

Gorge to Gorge is now sanitised and easy. Took us an hour last week.

The route from Agoudal to Boulmane is tarmac to Tizi N Ouano then piste to Tilmi, then tarmac again. Agoudal to Todra took us a leisurely 4.5 hours.

badou24 6 May 2023 16:36

just be aware of any rain in the atlas ,as the river can flood !!:rain::rain:

TheWarden 6 May 2023 20:46

the construction work along part of the gorge to gorge piste included some flood defense walls

Andrea XR 23 May 2023 15:59

I saw it on google earth, very different area compared to the last time I ride it in 2016, I'm talking about the Dades side
