Mini 4x4 Overland Adventure with Wife and Kids?
 

Rather than disappearing off for a bike trip and feeling guilty about leaving my wife and boys (ages 6 and 4) at home, how viable would a mini 4x4 adventure with them all be, starting and finishing in Marrakech?

Inspired by Chris Scott's posts, I'm contemplating renting a Dacia Duster 4x4 or similar for a few days, taking in some accessible trails/pistes (I'm a biker foremost, therefore lacking in 4x4 driving and mechanical expertise!) before returning to Marrakech. Ideally, we wouldn't be driving for too long and we'd stay in nice hotels, complete with pools and chilled white wine to appease my passengers at the end of the day. However, we'd nevertheless want a touch of wilderness adventure to make the trip memorable.

Any insights and route ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, all doable in a Dacia. Seeing loads around.
Nice hotels can be a bit thin in the west and far east (least touristy areas); use booking.com and M4 book will tell you what for. BYO booze.
Note that many tracks will be slower / rougher than the book says, post Sept floods.

Rent in Marrakech but you may like to consider basing around Skoura or,Zagora where there are nice hotels to use as a base and better access to off-road routes without driving for hours on asphalt.
