Morocco fuel prices and unleaded shortages
Bertrand asked for an update on fuel prices. Diesel 50 is around 8.35dh (59p) and unleaded is around 9.25dh (65p) per litre. I haven't seen diesel 300 (Eurodiesel?) for ages.
I'm currently in Oriental province and there's a shortage of unleaded. I don't know the reason. Three fuel stations in Oujda were out, eventually I filled with high octane. Both stations in Ain Bni Mathar were out but I asked around and got 7 litres in bottles. The only station in Tendrara was out and I (slowly) reached Bouarfa having done 69km on my 2 litre reserve! Both stations in Bouarfa are ok and I'm now headed for Figuig via Icht. |
Thank you very much Tim.
Lucky me as I'm running on diesel. |
There's no fuel stations between Bouarfa and the outskirts of Errachidia. Got unleaded in Errachidia.
Heading south, the Afriquia just before Erfoud was out of unleaded. The Ziz station in Erfoud had unleaded but not for long judging by the number of people filling 20-litre containers. Unfortunately this is human nature all over, the news of a shortage makes things worse as people stock up unnecessarily. |
No unleaded fuel in the Ziz in Rissani, the Ziz on the road junction north of Rissani is now closed. I eventually got some from a 'no name' garage.
No problems in offroad areas, must have seen 20 or so fuel drum stops between Merzouga and Oumjerane. Went back to tarmac at Alnif and one garage was out of unleaded, the Afriquia still had some left. So far I'm getting a 40-50% failure rate with garages being out of unleaded. |
Unleaded in Western Sahara is currently 5.6dh/litre which is about 39p. This takes effect anywhere South of Tan Tan. Gasoil 50 is 5.95dh.
I'm still encountering unleaded shortages, even in Tafraoute, so don't let your tank run too dry. |
9.25 dh??? this is like over 2 Euros :eek3: I hope not everywhere is like that...
|
Wrong, 9,25DH is 0,85 € !

I'm in maroc at the moment. I've not experienced any, but I have experienced fuel pumps breaking down because of the sun! Dont know how to work that one out!

Hope not getting excess of sun (on the sunny south) during my trip... |
Hi All:
Over the past week, I have travelled to the south of Morocco (I'm in Zagora at the moment) via Chefchaouen, Fes, Errachidia, and Ouarzazate. I haven't seen any evidence at all of any kind of fuel shortage. Fuel prices appear to average about 10 dirhams a litre. This appears to me to be pretty inexpensive - it costs me about 200 dirhams to fill the tank on my ST1100, in Europe, it costs me about €35 to fill the tank. Michael |
No fuel shortage at all during our trip from 10-17/may via: Tanger N13 to Meknes, N10, R702 to Merzouga, and N12-N9 to Marrakesh.
Of course no problem on more pòpulated areas on A7-A3 (Casa, Rabat, Tanger). |
I continued to encounter unleaded fuel shortages in various places, but that was three months ago now and you should not expect the shortages to still be in place.
