Motorcycle Insurance For Morocco!?!
Panic, I am off to Morocco leaving 4 February 2008 for 2 months and have just discovered from the HUBB that the insurance offices at Ceuta are closed. I have tried to get motorcycle insurance in the UK for Morocco but failed miserably and was intending purchasing cover on entry. Seems this is going to be a problem and the only solution seems to be to head to FEZ, which is a city I was seeking to bypass on my travel south to the desert. Does anybody know a company in the UK where I can purchase 2 months short period insurance for Morocco for my 2003 Yam XT600E?
Cheers guys; thanks for any help you are able to offer. |
I'm surprised you havn't managed to get cover from UK insurance company. In the past Morocco has been included on the Green Card Europe insurance, seems any country on Meditaranian Coast are included, try another UK insurance company if yours wont issue one. Good luck..

No problem with Carol Nash (Norwich Union) I think the cover drops to TPF&T though. Time to change your insurer I think

Motorcycle Insurance For Morocco!?!
Thanks guys for the response. I was with Carole Nash (the Company was not Norwich Union) until 18 months ago. I insured elsewhere as the attitude from staff and general level of service from Carole Nash was diabolical. I will give Norwich Union Direct a try, but if anybody has any other suggestions that would be much appreciated given that Morooco is a popular destination.

Couldn't agree more about CN.
I used NU directly in 2004. Be careful with the call centre type places, a few think their codes for Macedonia and/or Monaco are Morocco. In 2004 I thought I'd got an easy answer from Devitt DA until the girl on the phone said "you don't need an actual green card for the EU". A few more questions and I found out I was getting cover for Monaco! Good Luck and let us know how you get on. Andy |

Motorcycle Insurance For Morocco!?!
Hi Guys, thanks again for your contributions. I have phoned Norwich Union Direct and it is like pulling teeth. The person answering the phone to give a motorcycle quote did not even understand what a pannier was and I had to spell it out. As for a non standard Acerbis tank petrol, what can I say!
Had exactly the same problem as outlined by Andy, the girl initially thought that Morocco was Monoco and then realised what I already knew, that the standard territorial limits of the policy did not cover Morocco and I would need a green card, so the inquiry needed to be referred to underwriters. However, there were no "Level 1 Underwriters" available and I have been promised a call back tomorrow. I await the outcome with interest having spent an hour on the phone already. Thankfully it is freephone! I will let you know the outcome. Cheers |
I've not got a bike but I can highly recommend Stuart Collins in Swansea, they do European insurance generally but specialise in other stuff ...might be worth a call www.stuartcollins.com/

Motorcycle Insurance For Morocco!?!
Hi guys. OK looks like I have sorted cover. Decided to phone Carole Nash and spoke to an extremely helpful guy there called Saeed Hassan who confirmed that Zenith Insurance offer cover for Morocco, but limited to a maximum of 30 days per trip. However, as I am going for nearly 2 months. Saeed spoke to Zenith Underwriters who agreed to give me a Green Card for the period of my trip. Upshot is that I have bought an annual policy for third party only with a green card for 2 months in Spain and Morocco at a total £190. This is based on a 52 yr old on an XT600E with no claims/convictions and maximum NCD. So if you need cover for Morocco it might be worth giving Saeed a ring at Carole Nash on 0800 955 5083 on extension 2619. Just got to keep my fingers crossed that the correct documentation arrives before I leave, although I have an assurance it should be here in 2 working days. I will keep you posted! Seems that the service from insurance companies/brokers very much depends on whether you are lucky enough to get through to the right person. Cheers.

Brad,
Glad you got that sorted out. My earlier comment stands then Quote:

Motorcycle Insurance For Morocco!?!
Hi Guys, still not out of the woods yet. The documentation promised from Carole Nash has still not arrived. If it doesn't turn up in tomorrow's post, I will be on the phone chasing Saeed. Hi Andy; out on interest I did some research on Zenith Insurance and their head offices are based in Gibralter believe it or not, although they are authorised to trade in the UK and regulated by the Finanacial Services Authority for business transacted in the UK, so all should be OK using them. That's provided me paperwork arrives before departure. Hi BMW biggles, yes we are on the same boat; hopefully catch up with you for a beer on the ferry. I am riding a black 03 XT600E with Tenere stickers on me Acerbis tank. Well what can you do if you can't afford a new Tenere 660?

Cheers[/QUOTE] Buy an old orange BMW :O) See you in the bar Pete |
I am in Maroc at the moment. When asked for insurance at checkpoints I have simply shown them a laminated copy of my UK policy. It looks suitably impresive and no more questions asked. Probably not the sensible way of doing things, but cheap and a good fallback if your other options do not work out as planned.

Insurance Morocco
If you are headed for Chefchouan then there is a town called Tetouan on the way. Stop at the first office that has a blue AXA sign (You can't miss them) and ask for insurance, they will direct you to the main office in town where you can get it in 20 minutes. 60 Euro for a Land Cruiser with trailer, 30 days. Should be a lot cheaper for a bike.
I think it's pretty much the same for any other biggish town in Marocco. |
Insurance for Morocco
Hi, relief, Carole Nash have delivered as promised and the documents including green card have arrived today. So Andy you should be ok with CN. Pete with the orange BMW, see you in the bar. Birdy, thanks for the tip I will get laminating; should look impressive as you say. Jean, thanks for the info but I am out of the woods now and have the cover I need.
Many thanks to all who helped. Cheers |
Glad you got all sorted. HAVE FUN

Nice one.
Now, while you're doing my recce for me, would you care to check out the condition of the surface along piste M6 and find me a decent auberge somewhere near abouts. Seriously, cheers mate, info is really appreciated, have a great trip. Andy |
Good to meet you on the boat and several times on the road yesterday. Have you made it to the bikers home yet?
Gary and I have just got to Tangiers, we though we would see you again on the road. Hope all is well Pete |
I'm having absolutely no luck getting a months' cover for Marocco - everyone just says "We only do twelve month policies."
Bum. I've tried Ebike, Swinton, Motorcycle Direct, my local broker and Carole Nash. Any more ideas?:helpsmilie: |

Try here Home I received a highly professional treatment two months ago when I needed an insurance policy for my trip from Italy to Russia. They can provide insurance policies for Africa, as well. Let me know if this worked, then. |
Thankyou, I've emailed them. Will post back with the results!

Did the guys at Alessie come back with a workable solution? Jason |
Yes, but it was hideously expensive. Would have been cheaper to take out a fresh year's cover with Carole Nash and cancel my existing policy.
I did the whole trip without insurance in the end, and luckily didn't crash into anyone! However, one of the guys knocked a kid off his bike, and after three hours in a Police station was glad he'd got cover. On that subject, make sure you have the British Embassy phone number stored somewhere - the local Plod made Steve sign a statement which was written in Arabic... |
So there is no way around insurance you buy in Morocco? 876dh seems really expensive to me, in Germany you get a whole year's insurance for that price.

I did the whole trip without insurance in the end, and luckily didn't crash into anyone! quote] I did a swift 6 day tour on road bikes with some mates a couple of years ago, and we took out Carole Nash year policies, so as not to mess around at Ceuta (the office was shut when we arrived anyway! One of the guys was really canny and read the small print re cancelling the policy: if you cancel within (I think) 10 days and (important bit) send all the docs back, you get a substantial refund. He had an envelope ready and posted his docs back from Gib: I think he got about £90 of a £120 premium back, so worth looking at for a shorter trip. I was too slow, left it til I got home and only got about 15 quid back. :( |
Green Card For June Trip to Morocco
Just been told (e-mailed -sorry, they dont like talking to their customers) by e-bike that they wont cover me for morocco, not even if I pay for the extension. I am only there 2 - 3 days maximum. I dont mind paying the 80 euros for the cover upon arrival but can anyone state that the facility is still in place? I travel 14th June from Portsmouth aiming for Algeciras on the 18th June 2010.
Quite new here but fantastic site - its been a lot of help to this amateur! |
The way i did it in Dec 2009 was:
used Carl Nash as broker and Groupama as insurer. It costed me 160GBP for 3rd party, paid 60GBP upfront Got the green card for Morocco In Morocco phoned Carl Nash and canceled the policy They charged me 25GBP for cancelation and gave me the 60back :) Total 25 quid for 2 weeks bargain !!! |
