Nekob to Tineghir via Tiz-n Tazazert

Currently planning out routes for a trip later this year.

Can anyone give me an estimate for how many hours the route NE from Nekob to Tineghir via Tiz-n Tazazert is likely to take, in reasonable weather on a lightly loaded 650 single.

Just trying to work out if it's a reasonable plan for a days riding from Ouarzazate with the first section SE along the N9.

Any advice welcome.

Hi Duncan, with an early start I think you could just pack it into a day.
I'd allow 3 hours from Ozt to leaving Nekob. Another 3 over the pass (cafe) to Iknioun.
Last time I was there the track from here down to Tinerhir became fast and wide and eventually sealed. Great fun. Say up to 2 hours for that.

Should you run low on time, at KM53 from Nekob (junction with the road after the pass), it's tarmac all the way NW to Boulmalne Dades and from there an hour or two back to Ozt - very often with the setting sun right in your face. BYO peak.

I'd carry that as an option. It will save 2 hours and the best will be the Nekob-KM53 section.

I would say its 1/2 to 3/4 of a day

OK I'll read your question properly this time :)

Ouaz to Boulmane as Chris mentioned from km53 took us 08:15 to 15:30 in 2013

Thanks folks, that's sounds ideal for a longish day.

Alternative routes and options noted.

Hoping to culminate that day with a night at Auberge le Festival, one of my favourites.

Fabulous route, the southern half in particular!

Just checked my GPX. Took 4 hours going south a few weeks ago, on 3 x 1200's. And that included a 45 minute tea-break just south of Iknioun, plus a couple of photo-stops.

Cheers Ian.

Hi Duncan,

I usually do this route north-south i.e., Tizi-Nekob. That way it's tarmac all the way to the junction near Iknouin and then only a few km of piste to the top of the Tizi. After that it's about 90/120 mins down the other side which can be a bit of a staircase if the track is rough. You'll see most of the way down in case there's anyone heading up so you can choose a passing place. Especially if it's a heavily laden Merc 307D van. Also, the view is fantastic going N/S.
From the bottom, the piste runs through an attractive valley and then a fast dusty plain to Nekob. There's a Ziz garage/cafe at the end of the piste where you can rehydrate you and the bike before taking the new, fast tar road back to the N9 Zag/OZT highway.

Happy trails,

Peter

Thanks for all the tips. That sort of knowledge just makes a good ride an awesome ride. Can't wait, photos will follow.
