Nkob to Tan Tan
Hello all :)
According with your experience what´s the best route to follow - by 4wd - in terms of road conditions / time needed and view :) from Nkob to Tan Tan - as I can see there are basically 3 main options - 1) Souther of Imzil I can take the R108 / N10 towards Taliouine, Agadir and then straight south to Tan Tan 2) I can turn on the R111 till Foum Zguid and then follow N12 till Tata further south on the R102 till Guelmin and then N1 to Tan Tan... thanks in advance for the hints :) Nico + |
If you like the desert your southern route via Tata will be much more scenic.
Route MA9 (as described on p197 in the book) is a nice alternative to the section between FZ and Tata. Turn west just after the roadhouse/hotel and at Akka Ighern turn left and follow the road to the N12 'Desert Highway'. (I notice the maps on p177 and 195 show part of MA9 incorrectly - clarification here, updated map here). It will be a great drive ;-) Ch |
That's two routes, not three. :)
I wouldn't go route 1. It's OK until Taliouine, then quite boring from Ouled Birhil to Ait Melloul, and then busy around Agadir. Route 2 is better, long stretches through semi-arid hamada with mountains either side at times. Swimming opportunity at Tissint (between Foum Zguid and Tata). At the western end of Tissint the road takes a sharp left. Turn right onto a track for 200m to the waterfalls. When you regain the road, a km or so further on there's a great photo spot on the right with a deep gorge. Route 3 could be Taliouine - Igherm - Tafraoute (gorgeous) - Tiznit - Mirleft - Sidi Ifni - Tan Tan. If you go via Igherm, take time out for a short detour to Agadir Talmoudate near Igherm at N30 03.498 W8 23.752 Agadirs, also called Igherms, are fortified collective warehouses, many between 500 and 800 years old. See A20 The Three Agadirs for photos of examples. |
Thanks Chris :)
will take that in consideration - it could well be a nice deviation !!! thanks! Nico + |
Tim You are right :)
but there are 3 option at the end of the day..or even more  Will check the route you suggested too .. we plan to do that in 1 day as our final destination is Dakhla - and this one should be one of the longer legs on our trip. :) keep you posted - thanks again Nico + |
I don't know how you plan to get to Nkob but there is a great piste just east of Nkob that heads directly north to the Dades gorge area that you can link round to Todra gorge if your linking up from that direction. It goes over a really nice mountain pass and is easy to drive in a 4x4 with some amazing views. I dont know if you have been to Nkob before but there is fuel there and the town is really relaxed with a walled campsite that is supposed to have hot showers but they didn't work a few weeks ago. We really enjoyed Tata they have a pub and the first beer we could find for a while. Sitting out eating street food was really enjoyable and really cheap although I swerved the hart kebabs and went for the koftie ones with frites. If you choose Agadir and head south there is an amazing bit of piste driving to be had along the coast through the National Park Souss-Massa, its on the Olaf maps but marked as un driven I think. There are massive blow holes that shoot sea water in the air and make amazing sound and the wild camping along that stretch is to die for. Sand mats are advisable in this section as you can get stuck if you loose momentum but nothing ten minutes of fannying around cant sort out. Amazing area we had never heard anything about before we found it.
I hope this helps, Jed |
Thanks Jed
yes we plan to have that pass you mentioned from Tinghir to Nkob :) ... then will keep south :) thanks again Nico + |
