Passport validity

Hi,

I always thought you needed a minimum of 6mths left on your UK passport before you visit Morocco. However, UK GOV site says;

"Passport validity Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay in Morocco. No additional period of validity beyond this is required."

Is it correct? Thanks for any info.

That is the view of the UK government.
But it is the Moroccan government that allows entry into Morocco .. what is their view?

The general 'rule' is to have at least 6 months of the passport being valid. This allows for things going wrong - like an unexpected hospital stay - without any passport complications. You should be able to obtain a new passport even with 12 month of the old one being still valid.

The Moroccan Consultate website says six months, however this is undoubtedly an error as, when interrogated, the IATA database states validity necessary only for the period of visit. This has been confirmed by the fact that many visitors have posted that they have been allowed to enter with a validity in some cases of only one month.

Warin; many thanks, that was my view, as I travel regularly it's hard finding a gap to get the passport renewed.

Tim; likewise thanks for the info and link, I wonder if people who drive into Morocco (mostly open return) as opposed to flying in (generally a fixed return date) are looked on any differently. 11,300 posts :thumbup1:

Food for thought, thanks again.

you can get a passport renewed in a day if you go to the passport offices, expensive but time is money...

That is a bit difficult if overseas at the time. You can get emergency replacements from a consulate, not certain how long that takes.

I think all passports now come from Liverpool.

Thanks for the replies;
Agree; living in Southampton, the nearest passport office is London, frankly I'd rather drive within Marrakech's medina walls than London. :)

As I hope to be back in Morocco in Sept, just wondering to do it now or after.

Thanks to all. Safe travels.

Riding or train/tubing into LDN is a small sacrifice for the joy of travelling to non LDN like places.

I don't mind riding in London, what I do mind is the 17000 bike stolen last year. At least that doesn't happen in the Medina!
