Reccomendaitons for tyre change in Marrakesh
I'm wondering if anyone has got any recommendations for places in Marrakesh where I can get some tyres changed? I'll be stopping at La Relais, so northern part of the city would be better.
I'll will have just about have worn out my road tyres once there and will be taking some nice EO9s to change into for the fun stuff. I would do it myself, but my wheels refuse to seat the tyre unless they get obscene amounts of pressure in them. I've seen a few recommendations in the sticky thread but they might be a bit old now. cheers Dave |
I'm sure you'll find umpteen small workshops who'll be happy to do it for you for a small fee. IMHO really not worth finding a specific place, even if one is recommended.
A small tin of tyre paste is not a bad thing to carry, both to seal and lube, should you want to do it yourself if you can find an airline. I'm assuming you're talking tubeless? |
Yes, fair enough, given the amount of bikes in Maroc, I guess just about every street has someone who can fit tyres.
I'm on tubes, but no mater what I try I can't get the front to seat properly without over 100psi and plenty of tyre soap and I just can't get a foot pump that high. Everyone has the same problem including professional tyre fitter! |
crossings now
I've done the Algeciras to Tan-Med crossing but fancy a change, and was thinking of going Tarifa to Tangier this time.
Are there similar insurance booths and money changers at Tangier? This made Tan Med a very easy way of getting into the country but it was a tad industrial! It might be a little bit more of an enlightened way to enter Maroc, perhaps a little quieter with a vehicle and knock some miles off my ongoing journey as i'm trying to head south on the toll road for as many miles as I can. |
Tarifa has a few booths. Ferry only takes 20 vehicles so you're done in no time.
Esp if you're on the 5 o'clock, last boat and the douanier wants to go home. Then you are 300 meters away from the parking where the hotels are, by the medina. |

The Algeciras to Tan-Med route has the great advantage that the Tanger Med port is very heavily policed, and touts are not allowed into the areas where customs & insurance booths are. This means that you will have a peaceful, unmolested time once you get off the ferry and need to get your insurance purchased. It also means that security for your moto and possessions is very good whilst you are at the insurance booth doing your business, and later at the ATM getting some Dirhams. I don't know anything about the other routes - all I have ever used is Algeciras to Tan-Med, simply because I can't imagine things being better anywhere else, but I can easily imagine things being a lot worse elsewhere. There is a very fine highway (a toll road) from the Tanger Med port to Tanger. The tolls are not onerous. Michael |
