Riding with GoPro in Morocco
Hello!
Me and my wifa are thinking about 1-2 weeks riding in Morroco late december/early January. The idea is to stay at asphalt/good dirt roads. I would like to ride with my GoPro camera filming the riding in all kind of places lie cities, smalltowns and pure nature areas. The question is, would I run in to trouble filming (and taking pictures) in Morroco? (Did the same in Russia 2011 with no trouble at all):mchappy: Anders. |
GoPro in Marocco

officially it is not allow to take pictures from offical buildings, military stuff, and so on...:nono: Normaly you can take pictures where ever you want. Nature, mountains an dirt roads, old buildings and mosque, no one cares. If you take pictures from woman with donkeys oder or other person it can be that they want money from you and grumble if you don't give it. So try your self and good luck. :thumbup1: |
Thanks a lot for the answer!:mchappy:

Just back from Morocco and we had a small bullet video camera mounted on the windscreen for the whole trip with no problems.
However take photos of offocial buildings, police or military is asking for trouble, you should also always ask permission before obviously filming/photographing people. This is a cultural issue but most people are ok or will ask for a few Dirhams. (That said with a go pro mounted on your bike/car most won't realise your filming) I certainly got a sturn finger wagging from some border guards when my camera lense strayed at little to close to the border post |

Thanks a lot!
I can not have the GoPro camera attached to the bike because the vibrations from the Harley engine makes the video kind of "floating" so I use chest mount under the jacket and open the jacket just a little bit to make the camera sticking out at my upper chest. The russians noticed the camera when they came closer. At some police check points I turned the camera of and closed my jacket infront of the camera ( this when I had time enough before I got pulled over). Do you think this would be discrete enough in Morroco? Anders :mchappy: |
Used a small helmet cam through all of Morocco all the way to Guinea Bissau this february without a single comment, including road blocks where we catched officials asking for gifts... We also used a go pro, but this one is a bit more conspicuous and in your face...
I wouldn't worry too much... I wouldn't advice using it on border crossings though even if we did... |

You'll be fine IF you follow previous advice given. No to miliary/border/official buildings/dams, inside Mosques etc and, of course be sensitive to and respect local customs which you should know before you go there. Asking politely first avoids causing offence.:thumbup1: and that applies to anywhere in the world. |
Thank you for all your advises and good points!!
I know I worry to much before I ride to one for me completely new cultur and afterwards I allways wondering why I was worried. It sound to me like it all will be just fine as it did at the other continents I been riding in before! Thanks a lot! Anders:mchappy: |
Go Pro
Turn off the flashing red light and have a second gopro on you... If you get a hard time just take the other gopro and turn it on (with the flashing red light) to proove the one on your helmet is off... YOu can film ANYTHING like that... Cheeky but works...
