River Crossing to Boudenib
1 Attachment(s)
Fellow Overlanders,
I am off to Morocco next week and heading for Erg Chebbi. I will take the route North East to leave behind me Erg Chebbi than head for Saf Saf Oasis further on the Hamada Guir plateau to reach the river crossing at Boudenib to then take N10 up to Mengoub. I attached a photo of the river crossing. Has somebody done that recently, would anybody confirm if it is doable this time of year. Does the water level permit the crossing. Thank you fellow overlanders for your helpfull input. Che |
Did that crossing in October last year and it was fine as the water levels were low, I guess this time of year it may be higher with run off from the mountains
We took the ME2 route from Morocco Overland a linked it with ME4 and 7 on the way across to Figuig. TBH I found ME2 a little dull and lots of corrugations we decided the road would have been nicer but maybe one of the pistes further east is better. ME7 is a great piste between Tazzougert and Beni Tajite. Mengoub station is a nice stop and the piste on the Figuig a good way to surprise the army based at N32 13.049 W1 43.232 http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8073/8...554541b49c.jpg P1040951 Panorama 1 by Trackasylum, on Flickr |
Thanx Warden for the info, i pointed out 3 river crossings will try them then.
I dont have time for this detour but you are right it is indeed a nice detour from Tazzougert to Beni Tajite further north to Talsint onto R604 upto N32 41.104 W2 43.524 piste heading south to Mengoub heard it has beautifull scenery with foreign legion abandoned forts. My idea was to leave Erg Chebbi do the piste to Boudnib, on to N10 all the way to Mengoub and Bivouac somewhere on the (Mengoub - Figuig piste) heard about a nice water source N32 12.199 W1 56.672. Will surprise the army then :) Happy Travels Che |

True Bertrand...
I beleive Warden meant a military control post like the one on the Mhamid Foum Zguid piste.... It is more of just to be friendly and keep away from the border!!! havent heard they stopped anybody on that piste. Che |
There's a militray post at the coords I gave with some huge telecoms towers, when we went through it Oct we caught the soldiers sunbathing and out of uniform. I think they din't expect anyone to come up on the post from Mengoub. They just did a quick check of the routine....passports, where you going/come from :D

Just back from Morrocco - Fantastic piste from Merzouga (erg Chebbi) to Boudnib - great small canyon decsent - river crossing in boudnib very much doable.
I do recommend a bivouac for one night on the 174km piste. Happy Travels, Che |
