Short on road trip
Hi,
I've been reading the forum for some time now, and I'm crossing into Morocco this friday evening to Tanger Med. I have just 5 days and plan to at least cross the high atlas North to South first, and the South to North. First time riding a motorbike in Morocco, new bike and solo traveling, but I have some experience riding solo. For all fo this I only want to ride on tarmac or maybe easy and short trails. I am thinking to cross North to South on the RN23 from Demnate to Ouarzazate (MH12) and South to North on the RN12 from Tinghir to Imilchil (MH2) and then take take the RR704 and RN13 to Midelt (MH11). But all of this is subject to change based on how many km I'll be able to make a day and the road conditions. Any tips or info about the mentioned roads or maybe some ideas of other interesting routes? Thanks in advance! |
Also, does anybody know how is the non asphalt section between Ifrane and Tabant on the RR302?

I think you mean Imafane to near Z. Ahansal which we did the other day.
There are no challenges on it (take the left fork near the camping area below the cliff; old road is washed out). It might take less than an hour. Demante is being improved with lots of road works in the middle, and broken road at elevation in the south. Note the new routing in the north (maps have not caught up). Tinerhir to Imilchil is fine. I've done all these with car or bike in the last month. Will do MH11 later this week but I'm sure it's fine too. I assume 5 days = Sat-Wed but even then you'd need to belt down to Marrakech region on the motorway there and back (a day each with earliest ferry) to fit any 2 of these Atlas crossings in. Not a bad idea as it's a good way of covering distance fast in the less interesting north. With Ramadan the roads are particularly empty right now but off the motorway and in the mountains speeds are much slower, even on good tarmac. |

I meant the bit on the attachment.
Talking about the North. Any idea on the status of the RN29 between Talzemt and where it joins the RR504. I might follow it to Taza if it's in good condition. Thanks! I'll report back after the trip. |
Attachment bit is all road now.
