Solar Power Station Ouarzazate
Prob one for Tim
How near can you get to the above by road in order to hopefully see it ? |
Heading downhill south on the R307 towards Skoura, you get a good view of the solar plant about 4km on your right. Turn off the R307 at 31.090 -6.762. Hack west across the plain and you'll be at the boundary of the complex. Only issue would be if there's a lot of water in the river.

Dropping down from thr Tiz n Test in clear sky conditions, the glow from the plant and tower is 'other worldly'.Brilliant if you like scifi :mchappy:

Thanks.........we are overnighting In Skoura so will take a minor detour and see what we can see .
|
you can do a tour of the facility but need to book ahead afaik

I've been as far as the entrance gate but the view wasn't worthwhile. The official name is Noor 2 (noor is light in Arabic as in the morning greeting 'sabah el noor' or 'morning of light').
However some prefer to call it the Death Star. At times it pulses and when there's a breeze it emits a moaning noise. |
Just viewed it on google earth and its massive !

Its actually the Noor Power Station, made up of several component parts NOOR 1, 2, 3 and 4. Noor means light in arabic.
|
Good view coming down route H1 on the way to the airport piste.
Met a Noor worker at a fuel station near Skoura once – not open to the public he said but that was a while back. |
