Hi all.

I'm going to dust off the winter cob-webs in mid March and plan for a four week round trip to Morocco.

My rough idea is one week from U.K to Southern Spain. Two weeks in Morocco. One week back.

It would be great to swap details and ideas with others on the same route or schedule. Maybe even share the road or meet up for swapping stories.

It will be my first time in Morocco but not my first time riding in Africa. It would be nice to explore the trails and mountain passes but I won't be hard off-roading or riding the dunes on my old 1997 Africa Twin.

PM me if you want to swap details.

Cheers, Ted bier

Hi Ted

Hi Ted

Yes after the COVID lay off its time to get back into this.

I'm booked to go to Bilbao arriving on 25 April and cross back on the 13 May so just shy of three weeks to cross Spain and get to some sandy bits - Erg Chebbi at Merzouga and then over to Zagora. I looked at doing the GNV ferry from Barcelona to Tangiers but it wasn't a big enough gain to bother so its across Spain instead.

Going solo as that's my preference when possible. Last trip in 2019 was Road of Bones to Magadan in a small group.

2500km on gravel inn Far Eastern Russia got off roading out of my system so I'm having an easy one staying on the black top this time.

Looking like Tangiers, Azrou, Errachibia, Merzouga

Then Zagora, Marrakech, Casablanca and back to Tangiers

How are your plans?

We did a one month to Morocco and back last summer but on bikes so different that our experience wouldn't be much use to you at all. It's plenty of time but riding down through France and Spain could eat into it substantially if Morocco is your target and Europe is just something to get out of the way.

If you're going in March I'd guess your plans are fairly well advanced by now but trying to get on a ferry to/from northern Spain could save you four or five days of travel time. It's 600 miles of easy riding (on the motorway) from the ferry port down to Algeciras and probably closer to 1600 if you ride from Calais. Every time I've priced the ferry vs extra fuel / hotels etc the cost comes out about equal. Get the timings right and it could be 4 days each way and almost three weeks in Morocco.

Our transport - not the most suitable for tracks and trails

Hi Ted,

I'll be in-country from the 11th until the 25th. I'll be initially focussing on the Rif area but moving further south if time allows.

Like you on an old-timer - a white XT600Z.

Drop me a DM if you'd like to meet up and we can exchange contact details.

Hi mate. Due to work, I've had to re-book my ferry for 1dt October now. And it seems it's probably a better time of year to visit too.

Shame to miss you.

If your still in Morocco on the 21st October the 2nd annual Pizzas on the Piste is running somewhere south of the Atlas. Itsa great fun event bringing people together with a bit of a treasure hunt, good food and company
