Where is this piste in Moroccan Atlas? [video]

Someone has asked me. Near Azilal? Looks quite exposed.

Hello Chris, Neil P here. My first post on this tinternet forum ting!

I don't think you're too far out with Azilal, I think it's just near Zaouia-Ahanesal. Back in the DT days we used to always do what we called 'the Cathedral rock loop'. We'd camp near the bridge over Bin el-Ouidane lake (just south of Ouaouizarht) and then send the bikes around the loop to Azilal and on to the Cascades d'Ouzuod. It was too tight for the truck, but I don't remember it having those big drops shown in the vid, so i reckon it's maybe the off-shoot from that loop-piste, down to Zaouia-Ahanesal. Dunno for sure, but in that neck of the woods is my guess.

where 'tis

No it's not round Zaouia. It's possibly the track that heads from the Cathedral near the old Bailey bridge over the top to Imilchil. Anyone got any thoughts?

Happy trails,

Jojo

It's neither of the two mentioned above.

The only one I'm aware of in that area with such steep drop offs leads south east and steeply uphill off from the Cathedral loop at N31 56.706 W6 05.284 towards N31 54.548 W6 03.772

Thanks for your ideas, I think you're all in the ballpark. 'Ahanesal' was one of the vid's tags, Cathedral (a base jump) was the guy's next vid - which are both in the Azilal region to me - but I dont know that area.
I'll pass it on.

The piste I identified is halfway between Zaouia Ahansal and the Cathedral. There's a photo of it on the cover of Gandini's 'Volume I Pistes of Morocco'.

There's another piste heading off to the east into Zaouia Ahansal but IIRC it's a dead end after the village. The other route heading east from the Cathedral to Imilchil runs alongside the Assif Melloul at river level for much of the way and there's no steep drop offs.

There's a reference at the end of the film 'Merci aux Hahidous d'Imi n'Wareg' but I think this refers to the music. Ahidous is an earthenware drum and I am guessing the music is of the people of the Mouth of the Wareg.
