Where to go on the return leg
OK, another question as I'm planning my return route north. I am thinking of heading back up Chris Scott's MH2 route through todra and ending in El Kebab. Can anyone recommended somewhere to stay in that area or should I just power through to another town? There doesn't seem to be much to see in the area and I've already seen Meknes so it doesn't make sense to go there again. Thinking of heading to one of the north west coastal towns the next day so Tangier Med is within striking distance.

Hi,
Azrou is nice enough, there's a couple of campsites there, and you could visit Ifrane. But it's high up, so expect snow and very cold nights at the moment, and you could visit the apes in the cedar forest. Fes is that much further on. Then you could hit the tarmac to Moulay Bous or Asilah. Cheers, Mark |
Came thru azrou last week its blinking freezing there, lots of icy patches on the col that leads there from the south, however the road itsself is clear. Would imagine ifrane is worse as its higher.

Azrou and Ifrane are warmer right now but a lot of rain about.

Also, El Kebab is nothing special, an ordinary hill town iirc.
In the new edition MH2 ends in Imilchil. North half of MH1 is a more interesting route - all sealed for the moment but takes you out of the way eastwards. I'm told what becomes the R306 which leaves MH2 (R317) westwards 17km north of Imilchil towards Ouaouizeght is a great road ride (all sealed?). Or of course you could take the new MH19 out of Kella Mgoun for Tarbant (road resumes) assuming the winter has not trashed it. If it hasn't you could get as far as Demnate or Azilal area. From there a run next day to Asilah/Larache is doable. |
Hopefully you missed the rain, chucked it down last night in marrakech, sun is back out but a slight chill in the air.... Still wearing shorts though :D
