Where's this?

At about 13:30 in this video.

I did ask the OP, and they said somewhere near Erfoud, but I've not seen much like that there.

TheWarden 17 Mar 2019 14:36

In which video?

IanC 17 Mar 2019 16:57

Sorry, that's a good point!

That's Gara Medour, just north of the N12 as you head towards Zagora and pictured on the front cover of Morocco Overland latest edition.

Weirdly I knew it would be there without seeing the video, must be telepathy

Funnily enough KTM have also used imagery from Gara M in their recent promo for the new 790.

It is here.

Nissan were using in on November, but for the launch of a US model pickup I believe.

Well that's defo on my to-do list next month!

I love these big landscapes (escarpments?) that reveal themselves and surprise you, I guess with a big plain below. One I always remember is about 20 miles NE of Tagounite (riding from NE), the other 3 miles SE of Issil.

Any recommendations for equally spectacular ones?

TheWarden 18 Mar 2019 00:13

Issil is one of the best I think.

Not a bad one heading SW from Boudnib at N31 39.142 W3 50.558, not as high so not so dramatic but a great desert vista to the South.

Another good spot is N30 58.043 W4 47.344, not sure you could get up on a bike, it was a bit tricky in a 4x4, but its not far to walk to the top if you can't. Stunning view to the east from the top. Best way to approach it would be from the west then the view is more of a surprise

Thanks, I've got them logged :)

Gara Medouar was used as the location of Blofeld's lair in the James Bond film Spectre.

Some pix from our last visit.

Discretion being the better part of valour, we walked!
We didn't know what it was like further up and still had 2000 miles to go!

Ah, I happened to notice it was on TV very recently, wish I'd watched it now!

I was thinking Gara Meduar before even clicking the post link!

We visited over Christmas, huge group of Spanish tourist 4x4’s at the top, one playing Ed Sheeran at a volume that would hurt even a fan girls ears.

I still find it strange that you can just drive straight up or into a land mark in Morocco without a hoarde of angry locals claiming you’re ruining the countryside.

The Spanish eventually cleared and we met an eccentric local selling rocks and minerals and he kindly gave us a description of the local surroundings in approximately three languages also featuring a story of ‘a woman who once mangé dans les montagnes...’ I didn’t catch the rest after the third language change. Great to listen to though.

Bumped into the photographer of the photo on the cover of Chris Scott’s book in Marrakesh, smart intelligent friendly German chap called Marc who also knew some other friends of mine. These coincidental small world scenarios are getting more and more frequent the more I travel.
