Gallipoli 100 years ANZAC
I am very new to this so please forgive mistakes.
In 2015, April 25th will mark the 100th commemoration of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli. Does anyone know of any groups planning to ride from Australia to Gallipoli in 2015? I would dearly love to get involved but lack the skills to orgasnise such an event. |
Lets keep in touch....
Our club will again organise a good program for Anzac Visitors that will include visiting İstanbul by bikes... When time is closer, we will send you the ctatalog for 2015... Best wishes... zeki avar |
I would like to be kept up tp date on any meeting, I was in Galipolli in 2010 and thinking of riding to Australia in a few years time....... perhaps a link up with returning riders.

There will be a heap of interest in this as we get nearer and I wonder if its time to get admin to sort out a separate Hubb site for it? How do you go about it cheers :freezing |
Gallipoli 2015
Good to see that this is gaining some momentum. I like the idea of a common thread for this as it looks like people could be arriving from several directions and by different means. I'm in Japan at the moment but could be anywhere come March/April 2015 and it would be good to be able to connect with other ANZAC riders in my local at the time to ride to ANZAC Cove in company.

I suspect there will be several tour companies offering tours, and that's a great way to go for many reasons. There will also be people who'd just like to meet up somewhere and ride together and be there on the day. Should be a great day. Rentals in Turkey will be at a premium for those who want to fly in and rent, so book your bike early! Also Zeki has said the "Istanbul Bisiklet Motosiklet" club will be doing lots for the event. They're a great group and I'm sure they'll do a terrific job of organising it all. Quote:

I am a bit unsure about this, but I heard that this year the peninsular was closed off to normal traffic and only tour buses were allowed through, unless there was booked accomodation at the hotels there.
Craig Idema mentioned this to me when I tried to arrive at this years, but I was two days late anyway Maybe Mehmet can advise on what is allowed during the ceromony times, I know he goes by bus from Istanbul Cheers TS |
sorry to all marvellous allies...
Sure our club will organise a most hospitable organisation for 2015-Anzac Day in Gelibolu.Did all the official and personal pre-interviews with authorities including Ministry of Tourism,Mayor and Governor of Çanakkale, Dean of 18.Mart.University, some local and sponsor companies and most importantly some authorities in Australia and New Zealand..
Been personally there several times in december-2011,january-2012,march 17-18,April 22-26.In mid september will be there again for some important meetings. The project file will be ready and presented to all within few months. Personally this is my dream as being a grand grand son of one of the honorable soldiers who have lost their lives there. Sorry to say that it's very hard to make plannings even for 2 years forward in this part of the world. 1-Things change so fast. 2-Elections. Municipalty in 2013 Presidency in 2014 General Elections in 2015 3-Politicsmen always forget their promises and try to make good happenings an advertising material for their political parties here. This is an important, meaningfull and respectful activity so we all hope all promises will be kept. And the good news; 1-All bikers will be hosted at the university. 2-We will be able to stay 1 day and night in a military base there where all soldiers will be under 1915 military uniforms and we all will be offered same meals they had in 1915. 3-We will visit all the battlefields, cemeteries, bays and monuments on bikes. AND LET THE REST BE NICE SURPRISE WHICH WILL BE ANNOUNCED HERE. And pleasure for us to take this as a chance to thank to hundreds and hundreds of marvellous allies who has been to our club and honoured us. And very sorry for the English grammar mistakes you may meet. Best Regards Mehmet Zeki Avar |
Hi,
I'm very keen to attend Mehmet's club event. I too have family connections to the Galipoli campaign and I've always wanted to ravel east as far as Turkey. But this topic seems a bit old, is there another thread that I'm missing? Regs Simon PS Mehmet - your English grammar is probably better than mine - and I was a teacher :) |
Still following
Still no sign of Aussies or Kiwis making the ride from home, I'll keep following and see how it pans out. Thinking it'll be pretty cold riding at that time of the year though. :freezing:

This is the only thread about this activity and we all are waiting in patience.
Reason of silence at our side is explained above with details. April has nice weather conditions in all over west half of Turkey.(18-25 C.) Nights are cooler in the area.(8-15 C.) I start partly staying in my summer house at Lapseki(opposite port of Gallipoli) for fishing, hunting, swimming, relaxing, etc. first week of April.. Aussies and Kiwis I meet at Gallipoli on bikes for Anzac Day, generally make this town a starting point for their trips back to their homes..Bikes are shipped to İzmir. As ı remember, once a year every december, there is a direct sealine to İzmir from Australia. Sure will inform all details when clear...Lets keep in touch. Best wishes to all.. |
Galipolli
A group of Pakistani bikers and history enthusiasts are excited about Gallipoli anniversary. I have heard and read a lot about it and would like to pay homage to the legendary Turkish regiment which created history of extreme valour along with other victims.
A bit of guidance for visa and carnet for Turkey would be very useful from our Turkish friends. We would prefer to make a loop, Pak-Iran-Turkey-Armenia-Azerbaijan-Turkemanistan-Uzbekistan-Kirghizistan-China-Pakistan Cheers |
I reply here and all personal messages asking for information to enter Turkey by a vehicle and try to donate all with current tips.
Between Pakistan and Turkey no anymore developments for visa procedures yet. Both sides have to apply to consulates for visa in the home country except official passport holders (free) and those who already have Schengen/OECD member country visa or residence permit while entering. If any invitation letter is needed (don't think so as Pakistan conculate staff here is very friendly for Turkish applicants), sure will be pleasure to send LOI. to all brothers there, guide and host all here who plan to visit Turkey not only on bikes. Current visa procedure between our countries is: (Officially written) Pakistan: Official passport holders are exempted from visa for their travels to Turkey up to 90 days. Ordinary passport holders are required to have visa to enter Turkey. Ordinary passport holders with a valid Schengen, OECD member's visa or residence permit may get their one month single entry visas at the Turkish border gates upon their arrival. Visa Fee.: PAKISTAN 1 Month 20 $ - 15 € 3.....3- Ordinary pasaport holders with a valid Schengen, OECD member’s visa or residence permit may get their one month period single entry visas at the Turkish border gates upon their arrival on the condition that they meet certain conditions. No carnet needed to enter Turkey. If your green insurance doesnt cover Turkey, you can buy traffic insurance at all land bordergates for periods of 1,3,6,9,12 months beginning from 25 TL. This is the link to university hotel by the seaside with a huge garden we plan to stay during 100.anniversary days..Also friendly local bikers and cyclists club available run by the uni. students..Soon the site will be also in English.
