TOURATECH open weekend (Wales) 27/28 Sept
Hi all,
Firstly the MCN advertises this event as taking place this Sunday 21st Sept, its not correct. The event is for the entire Saturday and Sunday 27th / 28th Sept. I have just had an email, being a previous customer (as I am sure many of you are too) to notify me of the event. The details are now on the TT website aswell. The big news is that the event is allegedly being attended by stars of the two wheel travelling kind, namely our own Grant Johnson, Charley Boorman, Kevin and Julia Sanders, Austin Vince and the dakar riders Simon Pavey, Nick Plumb and Sam Manicom. I put Grant at the top of the list as TT have him at the bottom,, I am sure it was not intentional Grant haha. There is camping, rideouts, bars, food and rideouts for big trailies on the BMW off road estate. I live quite nearby so i will pop in for sure, i will make myself known to Grant and hopefully get to chat to Mr Boorman and the others. There is also 10% off purchases made on the weekend, so if you are spending any money with TT shortly, next weekend is a good time. Regsitration is required for the rideouts as numbers are limited. Cheers Lee |

Thanks Lee, yes we will be there, doing a show of some sort from 11-noon on Saturday.
What should we cover - any ideas? We have ONE hour, so none of what we normally do can be done! We're thinking a bit on HU for those who don't know who we are, a few common topics that always come up, and a few clips from our new DVD to help illustrate them. suggestions? We'll also be doing some filming, and need people to do brief bits: this is what I have, I bought them because, I like them because, I hate them because, what's good and bad on: Metal Mule panniers Jesse Panniers Tesch Panniers and any others Soft Luggage varieties Various tyres Body armour Flip up / open face / off-road helmets Modifications you made to your bike for travel - what worked and what was a waste 2-3 minutes on bikes: Africa Twin KLR650 Transalp KTM 640 KTM 950/990 DRZ400 F800GS F650GS old R100GS and I know I'm missing more! If you're going to be there and are game for a short interview, let me know - send a PM or email with your mobile number. thanks, and I look forward to seeing you there! |
I'll miss it, sadly, but if anyone's going I'd love to know if Touratech do anything specific for smaller bikes (I've got a Derbi Terra Adventure) end equipping that's fun. Noticed there's been a bit of a buzz lately on here about smaller engined bikes so might be worth something.
And maybe no-one mention the big Ewan & Charlie thread, although if he's such a fan, he's bound to have read it surely? |
help.
if you need some help grant i only live around the corner (about 2 miles). will be up for giving out leaflets or whatever else. will wear my HU t-shirt for everyone to see:thumbup1:.
pm'd you my phone number. |
I'll be there too Grant, with my gf Suzanne.
We met you a few weeks back at the Somerset meet. I'll be in my HU shirt as well, and likewise, if we can help by handing out flyers just let me know (tall, black HU shirt, no hair). Are you going to join in with the off-road tour of the BMW training ground on the white beast? It would be an honour to ride with you on that! If anyone is thinking of doing the ride outs you should make sure you register in advance. I've called and booked this morning, and there was still places on the 13.30 off-road ride on Sat morning, and for the morning ride on the Sunday, but I wouldn't hang about or wait until the day. I spoke to Nick Plumb in the shop on Saturday and he said he has over 200 people registered to turn up, and you can bet people will try and sign up on the day. Nick has assured me that I will be fine with no previous off-road experience, and with Pirelli Scorpions on my KTM 950 adventure. Also, they have said that it is for big trailies only - no MX or enduros. Hopefully see many of you there. |

Might be an idea to remind people of the HUBB Search function, and the fact that there's lots more to the site than the HUBB? Lots of the questions I see posed could easily be self-answered with a little initiative. Or am I being a bit harsh? Regards, Mick |
:offtopic: Sorry.
Mick, I've been trying to contact you. Are you going to this? It would be really good to meet up. E-mail me at richard_tibbetts AAAT hotmail doot com and I'll send you my mobile number. Rich (black KTM from the Somerset meet) [back on topic - thanks] |
I doubt we'll have time for a ride, but it would be fun! We'll see how it's going, and thanks for the help offers and comments! See you there - esp when our talks are scheduled. Good opportunity to get everyone together for a chat after.
And no Mick you're not being harsh... further comment :censored: |

Alex, I'll be going on my brand new Derbi Terra :mchappy:( I didn't get the Adv myself in the end...although thought about it long and hard!!). I will be checking out what is around for the smaller engined bike, so will report back for you! Least I can do seeing as it was actually your thread on here when you were choosing the Terra, that gave me the idea for one!! |

A nice event - better than I expected. Lots of BMW bling to gaze at. Charley Boorman did really well by his relaxed approachability and his readiness to sign books and chat easily to all and sundry. No trace of the luvvy there. And two good talks too.
Horizons well represented by two talks. Nice to see Sam Manicom, soon to appear at the Ace. Great fish suppers in the village, and a handy supermarket for beer and breakfast. Theyre going to do it next year. Nice to see some Ripley faces there too. |
yes, a very good event. Especially given it was the first time theyve put this on.
When I get chance I'll post some pics taken over the weekend, and also of the off-road ride out. This was the highlight for me, as I didn't have any previous experience off road. The chance to be taken out by the BMW off-road instructors really couldn't be passed up - expecially as it was free! Heaps of fun. And proved to me that my bike and I are more capable than I would've thought. Also, good to see so many familiar faces from the Somerset meet. Basically, a fab weekend. |
Touratech Event
A great weekend nice to see a few faces from HU events there, my son and I enjoyed the talkes and had a good ride out after getting some local advice on a route. The weather made it but a bit chilly first thing in the morning, and well dune Charley for staying around to sign the books.
