Compilation of Garmin .img file
I'm trying to create a .img file for OTM France maps to use on my Montana 700i.
The map is working fine in basecamp and mapsource. Using garmins mapinstall I get an error message saying the map is 2.8GB only 27GB available! (Ive tried intsalling on a 128GB memory card and get a similar message) I've also tried using OSMcombiner but it runs out of Java memory when processing, I've tried this both on my slightly old laptop and also a new more powerful desktop. Any tips on generating a suitable .img file? |
I can remember about reading about mkgmap on severall blogs:
https://www.mkgmap.org.uk/download/mkgmap.html I hope it is helpful! As you may know - I`m more into using a Smartphone/Tablet for navigation purpuse, so I did not test it at myself. HNY! Surfy |
Was it helpful? :mchappy:

Not really, OSM compiler uses mkgmap to process maps. I get an error message saying it runs out of memory compiling the .img file.
the laptop has 8GB Ram and the Desktop 32GB so plenty available. I suspect its an issue with using Java to process the map. Tried changing available memory for Java but no change. Mapsource and Basecamp use a different system, but give an error saying the file is 2.8GB and only 128GB is available. Its mentioned a few time on various GPS pages but no fix. Its frustrating but the map being processed is a Topo Map for France and I have an alternative that I can use. |
