Garmin gpsmap 60csx HELP
Hi everybody,
I have purchased (secondhand) the above device and cannot get it to work with the microSD card installed! It works perfectly without it but as soon as it's installed (with City Navigator on it) the device freezes/locks and I can't do anything with it. Any ideas gratefully received. Cheers Pete |
i have the same unit but have never had this problem - are you sure you are installing the microSD card correctly? there is a little metal arm that you are supposed to slide over it to lock it into place... also note that not all garmin maps are compatible with all garmin gps units so its possible that your version of City Navigator is incompatible (garmin usually has to versions of each map, one labeled as "NT" and the other one not, and only one of these will work with most units)
or maybe your unit is just broken (hope not!) |
Gps
Hi I had a similar problem with a different units card once.
I bought a top notch sd card to load some new maps on but it just wouldn't have it. I ended up buying a middle of the road card, copying everything over to that and it worked! might be worth a try! Dave. |

Hey Pete,
every garmin device (so also your 60 csx) you have to get together with maps in garmin.com. So until you do not have connected your device with this map it wont work. You can have a look on Garmin | Follow the leader - mygarmin. Normally you buy a map for a special device and then you get a code. With best regards Blitz |
Blitz, the 60csx has a built-in basemap, so it will "work" even with no other maps installed.

I had the similar problem. I updated the software to 4.0 and formatted the sd card. then it worked.
they are tough devices, the problem is probably on the sd card or software. |
The software is current on the device, if I format the card will I not lose the maps that are on it?
Cheers Pete |
sure you'll lose all of your maps and data which are on the sd card.
before you format the card, copy all the files/folders/etc which are in the card to your computer. then format the card and then copy all the files/folders/etc to the sd card back again. there might also another problem: your maps can be corrupted!! so, even you format your card and copy all the staff back, you may have same problem. what maps do you need? |
When I purchased it I was told it had City Navigator (UK and Europe) installed. I don't have a micro SD reader so I can't check/format etc so i'm guessing that's my first point of call?
On a side note I went to the Garmin site to register but the previous owner seems to already have registered it, do I need to worry about registering it in my name, will I lose any functionality/services by not? In hind site praps I should of not tried to save money an had a new one :frown: Thanks for the help Pete |
Peter
As been said before- some HD micro sd cards do not work in the 60csx I have sold mine and have 'de-registered' it from 'My Garmin' through the garmin website- This allows another owner to register the unit in their name. Ask the previous owner to de-register it. If the maps on the unit are current (less than one year - Garmin used to offer a once only free update) and IF the previous owner has not doen so, then not registering it will loose you this update. IF the previous owner has already doen this, you loose nothing on functionality. Garmin will always offer free operating software updates for the unit itself until it is discontinued. I am guessing the 60csx is out of warranty. Garmin do offer a repair service for a fixed price. As far as the what is on the sd card- you'll need a card reader (cheap as chips these days) to find out what is on there. Your choices in the meantime are: - ensure the unit is as up to date possible as far as its operating software is concerned (free from Garmin) - Get a new sd blank sd card for your unit - load OSM maps on it which are free The 60csx works perfectly well without maps- not too useful for referencing but it will work on a straight line navigation basis - i.e between points of interest you create or may already have. If you speak to Garmin and explain the map problem, they might agree depending on its age etc for you to send the original micro sd card back to them for unlocking. If they say 'no' then you might have to buy City Nav Europe from them as a 'one off' purchase then pay another ( I think about £80) for free map updates for lifetime of the unit- if the unit dies, bang goes lifetime update! hope this helps |
Hi Bert,
Thanks for the heads up. The card has a few tracks on it and that's it! I only really use it to get me out of large cities and point me in the right direction so not having the City Navigator isn't the biggest problem, being told it was on there and it not being is a different matter:taz:. Cheers Pete |
did you buy it on fleabay?
cant you ask the seller to send you the map? |
