Garmin repair
After a couple of years trusty off-road service my Garmin Etrex vista has died. It's fine when stationary but any light bump on the move turns it off. I guess there's some loose connection somewhere. Does anyone know where these things can be repaired. Cheers.

I have heard very good things about Garmin after sales support. I know of 3 cases where units have been sent back to Garmin Europe , which is based in the UK , and they have been either repaired or replaced free of cahrge when out of warranty. I think the best thing is to contact them by email directly and ask them. They may tell you to contact the importer in Portugal whwre you are - but I wouldn't , I'd just send it by registered mail to Garmin Europe directly and ask them to look at it.

Garmin shut down.
Dave.
Had a similar problem on an etrex a while back. Sounds the same as yours. I used some thin foam on the lid of the battery compartment to hold the batterys in place better, this did the trick. Maybe you could use several layers of electrical insulation tape just so the lid closes onto the batterys a little tighter, and ensure that the tabs in the unit make a good clean contact with the battery terminals. Best of luck with it. Dave. |
Thanks for the info guys. DJ - I took your advice, put some tape in the battery compartment and it has passed the vigorous handshake test. Need to get it out on the trails now and really test it. Cheers.
