Gentle nudge on this one. Anyone used these? GPS Tracking | GPS Tracking System | GPS Tracking Device
|
I have not used them. But, as the OP wanted a LIVE tracker, these would be no use for what he wants.
Maybe start a separate thread as there may be other people who have used them but won't see it because it is lost inside a different subject thread. The info collected by the above devices would be of some practical use and would have no problems with 'knowing' where they are as they only receive GPS data from the satellites and do not transmit, so a totally different function. Still, an interesting concept and worth it's own thread. Cheers TS |
Good thinking TS! I'll do just that

There are Inmarsat based GPS trackers available: DMR-800D
I am sure it is significantly more costly than the Spot system, but you get much better coverage with Inmarsat in South/East Africa, India, Southern South America. Would be curious to find out the cost(s) associated with using this system. It is a much more involved process... |
For non-live tracking, if you have a semi-recent cellphone you could install 'Trekbuddy' or 'MgMaps' and whack an external bluetooth capable GPS antenna on your bike then track with that. The antenna would pick up the signal and bluetooth the data to your phone, whether it's in your pocket or bag etc.
It's a great way to cut back on devices.... |
