Hardwiring to the bike
 

Will be hardwiring the 60 series GPS to by Yamaha XT660. Was looking at the touratech mount but wondering...can i simply buy the charge clip and attach it to the mount so the GPS is removable every day (say around London even)

The touratech mounts are quick release, you can just unclip the whole GPS unit from the mount whe you leave the bike. I've got one for my Garmin 2610, and it works very well. I've mounted it onto the bars with a RAM mount, and it's very stable. My main concern is somebody stealing the mount itself - it's expensive and quite eye-catching for somebody who knows what they're looking at. I've replaced the wing nut on the RAM mount with a regular nut to make it more secure, but if I was leaving the bike parked up in a city centre I'd keep the wing-nut si I could remove the mount along with the GPS, especially if I was leaving the bike overnight.

a small welding point between the screw and nut will keep your mount forever on your bike......


(never tried this, this is just a quick idea. Don't fry your electronics while welding on your bike and think about reasons why you should be able to take the mount back off before welding :biggrin:)

I've got my 60C hard-wired to my bike up to the connection on the back of the unit. Wouldn't have it any other way. The only thing that worries me is the lightweight construction of the pins in the back of the gps - I fear they'll fail one day with all the connecting and disconnecting.

Instead of removing my gps from the ram mount I just remove the whole kit. Just as easy, and saves me having to make all those minor adjustments to get the gps angle juuuuust right when I put it back on.

Instead of welding go to a BMW workshop and get them to put a drop of Loctite Green onto the nut (or nuts). To remove it needs heating to 100 deg.
