Importing Google maps . . . .
I personally find Google maps easier for me to use than mapsource. I have created the specific route I want, used www.takitwithme.com as a means to load it onto my Garmin 550 and . . . . nothing. I can't work out how to save it onto the device so that when I use the 550 I can go to 'routes' and it's all there. Does anyone know how to do this? It's probably very simple!

Hi,
Try some of the tools mentioned above to convert to GPX format, then import it to Basecamp and send it, once imported, to the device with this tool. With my nuvi 510 I have to do this if I want to get these routes avaliable in the GPS: Go to Tools -> My Data -> Import Route From File A message is showed with a "Searching for Cust. routes" advice, then a list with all the routes you sent to the device have to be showed; select the desired one (multiple selection is possible) and click on "Import". Once this work is done, your imported route has to be avaliable under "Custom Routes" in "Where to?". Keep in mind I don't know if both, 510 and 550, have the same interface/options. Greetings. |
I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add a work around I found for this issue.
Once your route has been transferred to your gps, check the .gps extension on the file. If the extension is in upper case, as in .GPS, it will not import. Rename the extension in lower case, as in .gps, and it should import. |
