Keep it simple please...
I know absolutely nothing about GPS....
However i'm planning a trip for November around Morocco... I've got the Chris Scott Trailblazer guide sitting here with me now, i just need a GPS to accompany the maps and book i've got... So... What is relatively simple to use, will work easily in Morocco, has good battery life, and cheap? Pay day is Thursday, so ideally something i can order online, and get used to using over the next couple of months |
Not wishing to divert the thread before it gets started (and I know what it's like when you've decided to go one way and someone suggests another!), but you might find you don't need a GPS device for Morocco. I used my Gamin 550 all the way down through France and Spain, and found it very liberating (and not at all difficult) to only use a paper map whilst in Morocco. It was my first time there, and I must admit I was rather apprehensive! When going anywhere, I found it extremely easy to navigate - often it was just one road to wherever! Even I couldn't get lost! The only time it would have been useful was when in a city (and you may very well want to stay clear of these anyway!). On these occasions, I just asked people for directions. Often, men on scooters would 'rush' up to me where I wanted to go; sometimes I just followed their help. One very memorable time, some guys were hanging off a truck. I shouted, pointing in a direction and asked "Marrakech?". The guy smiles and shouts back, with a few very clear gestures the way to go. Brilliant.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is you might not need one. :thumbup1: this is the simplest option! :innocent: |
I had read similar things on here before thanks...
However i thought it'd be good for off road routes? |
Get a Garmin handheld. They have a compas display and coupled with your paper map, you will always know where you are and which way to head.
Lots of second hand units about like Dakotas, Colorado and Etrex on fleabay. Free maps from openstreetmap.org |
you have a p.m-
and I'll install osm and Morocco map for you FOC! |
